So his father had made the Phiagero Covenant with someone and never told him.
The symbol was quite delicate and you wore it on your forearm. It was a bit like an abstract spider, the shape was difficult to explain.
"Can you make this covenant with just one person?"
"No, with up to five people."
Damian nodded and looked back and forth between Susy and Aidan.
So it would be possible that all three of them made this covenant with each other.
"You then become a true unit."
He mumbled more to himself. That would of course be the solution to their problem of mistrust.
It was almost too easy to be true. With or without this covenant, Aidan was a lot more talented than him.
A natural talent.
To have him against you would be dangerous, with or without magic, he would be inferior to him in battle.
The covenant was his only option. Briefly his gaze slid back to Liz who still hadn't moved a millimeter.
"As long as she doesn't speak, it is not possible to include her in our covenant." Aidan explained to him.
"If you two want that, we can do that." Susy said and put her hand on the card. "What should our goal be?"
Damian hesitated, as long as he didn't know that he wouldn't enter into the covenant.
"As soon as we have taken the oath, you can say what our goal should be. You will say the first and last words and so you become our leader.
You can then be the only one to accept two other people."
Aidan explained to him and smiled.
"I trust you." He put his hand on his shoulder.
"The same goes for me." Susy pulled her hand away from the card and put it on his shoulder as well.
"I don't even know what to swear."
He smiled and looked at the card.
"Oh, don't worry about that." Aidan patted his shoulder. "The text will appear on the card as soon as we start." Damian nodded and looked at his friends.
"What happens if the union fails?" "Then we won't get the mark. There is no risk in it."
Damian let out a deep breath and looked into Susy eyes, she nodded and pulled the corner of her mouth up.
"It doesn't have to be today." Aidan said and put his hands on his lap.
"Yes," he decided without hesitation. "This is the only way we can trust each other."
"Then why are you hesitating?"
Aidan cocked his head and studied him carefully.
"Because I have no goal." He confessed meekly.
Actually he would be happy if it was all over. He could get off the island with them and live a quiet life somewhere. Fighting Alajos would do them no good. Why fight for others, he couldn't care less about people.
He could just go to the mainland with them and lead a quiet life there in peace.
There was peace in the rest of the world.
"It wasn't people who made you suffer." He looked at Susy who had clenched her fists and was staring at the floor with wide eyes.
"They were magicians," she said through clenched teeth.
"Look at Liz, she never rebelled against this man and yet he made her suffer for decades. He only uses peace to play his own dirty game."
She began to shiver, then she shot up angrily and almost rushed over to Liz. She gently put the absent girl down and covered her again.
"Susy is right about that."
"I know, but he just wants to keep the peace. By all possible means."
His memories had shown him what the world was like outside. It was really nice for his people as long as they didn't rebel.
"Peace is beautiful." Aidan confirmed, you could hear Susy swearing softly in the background.
"Yes, peace at the cost of the innocent, Liz is not the only one who is tormented in this way. Don't we all have the will to decide our own lives?"
"So you want me to rob the world the peace for people like Liz?
For the enslaved people?"
He grabbed Aidan's collar. For what feels like so little, he should plunge the world into the desperation of war. That was sick, just sick.
"Yes, for the freedom of all of us."
He yelled at Damian with a twinkle in his eyes that he had never seen before. "Let this false peace go up in flames." Aidan grabbed his wrists so that he had to loosen his grip.
"So that one day we can live on an equal footing in this world. Together with humans, the druids and all other living beings between the depths of the ocean and the heights of the sky." Damian sat down, should he really rejoin the Eye of the Moon.
Everything Aidan said was true, but this time he would die if Alajos got his hands on him.
He squeezed his eyes shut.
Why couldn't all this crap just stop?
"Alajos is too powerful. We will all die trying."
"Then let us die fighting my friend." Damian lifted his head and looked over at the lying Liz.
He had never been a warrior, even then. When his parents were blown he had only been a member himself for a few months and had been nothing more than an administrator.
The only thing he had done was set the documents up in flames to save at least some of the members.
No more, after that he had allowed himself to be arrested without resistance.
"Fight for your parents, your friends and for you." Susy seemed ready to die for her cause.
Although she didn't even know how powerful her opponent was.
"Alajos is over three thousand years old. The oldest and most powerful magician in the world, none of the armies in the world could match him."
He drove to Susy, who didn't even flinch. However, the whole situation made him desperate.
In fact, he already knew what to do. There was no other way that seemed right to him.
"This is not a fairy tale," he began. "We'll probably lose everything."
He clenched his fists.
"Let's do it."
Aidan and Susy nodded, Susy sat down again and they all shook hands. He immediately felt the warmth of his two comrades.
When the card on the floor began to change and reveal some text.
The ceremony began, after which they would be comrades to the death.
