Some weeks later

Hate. Hate. He had to hate, but how was he supposed to learn that.
The only people he had to do with were those from the Order and he was reluctant to hate these people.
They had been on the road for several weeks now, it would soon be time and their squad would reach the northern part of the country.
Liz, Sasha, Marco in the end all except Selim and Kim haven't spoken to him for several days.
They didn't even look at him anymore. But at least they would stay a few days at their stopover, a break from the long journey was good for all of them. Relieved, he stretched out in bed and got up.
He was allowed to have the small room in the building of the order alone, but it almost seemed as if he was being separated from the others.
Still, he couldn't hate his comrades, no, he couldn't do that.
They had their reasons, he was aware of that and that knowledge kept him from it.
Slowly he crept out of the room into the narrow corridor.
He didn't want to have breakfast today, they would be leaving soon.
So he wanted to go hunting a little in the nearby forest.
When they arrived he noticed that the forest was home to many rabbits, deer and other animals.
Marco didn't talk to him anymore, but when he brought him his hunt, he still cut it, he was sure of that.
Without looking left or right, he walked out of the building in the direction of the stables.
Where he always let his bow by the saddle.
Danoise waved happily when he entered the stables and scratched her hooves.
After all, his dear horse was happy every time he appeared.
He opened the gate and went into her stall.
"Hey cutey." He stroked her neck gently before closing his arms around her. "We'll travel on soon."
He felt the horse trying to nibble on his back and began to laugh.
"Always nonsense in the head."
He pulled away from her and closed the gate behind him again. Before he went to the saddles. His bow was still where he'd left it, along with the arrows.
He grabbed it and hurried quickly out of the stables.
The forest was less than ten minutes from the building. It was really exciting, the forest could be reached within a few minutes in every quarter also river.
Slowly he crept into the forest, fallen branches broke under his feet and the leaves crunched.
While birds could be heard singing from above.
His breathing was shallow as he moved quietly through the forest. While his eyes flare straight out looking for animals.
After the hunt he would have enough time for breakfast, his training and afterwards for a bath.
Smiling, he crept further into the forest, bow in hand and an arrow.
He had tied the others to his belt. When his gaze spotted a rabbit in front of him, he slowly tensed the bow and stopped his breathing.
When he let go of the bowstring, the arrow buckled in the direction of the hare and hit him on the head.
Death, the animal fell on the floor and Damian smiled contentedly.
"Well done." Kim's voice tore him out of his thoughts and made him jump up. "Don't ever sneak up on me like that again."
He replied angrily, but Kim just shrugged and reached for some herbs. Damian rolled his eyes and walked over to the rabbit. He removed the arrow and put it with the others.
Before he threw the rabbit over his right shoulder and went back to Kim who was still collecting herbs.
"What are they supposed to do?" "Medicinal herbs."
Kim smiled and stowed some again in a small pocket that appeared under the coat.
He had never noticed this before, but Kim itself was always good for a surprise.
"Oh yes Damian", Kim's gaze slid over to him. "I'm sorry about back then." Confused, he now looked at Kim, who was still collecting herbs.
"What do you mean?"
"Back when we met. That was very rude of me."
"Oh, it's okay."
The fact that Kim had threatened him back then had already faded in his memories. But it made him happy that Kim now seemed to trust him too.
For a while he watched Kim gathering herbs. When suddenly someone tapped him behind him
"Selim, listen a-", confused he stoppend and looked the person standing behind him.
It wasn't Selim, but Sasha, followed by Marco. This hurried after her in as fast as he could.
But when Marco noticed him, his eyes darkened within a few seconds.
He now arrived too, took his prey from him. Grabbed Kim roughly by the wrist and disappeared.
Only Sasha stopped and looked at him impassively.
"Hey," he said, taking his bow over his shoulder and holding onto the string. "Can we talk?" Sasha shifted her weight onto her left leg and continued to watch him.
Damian nodded, but already began to strall towards the quarters.
"What do you want Corperal Hindel?" He looked over at her annoyed because she was still silent.
"Do you hate us?"
"No."
He heard the woman exhale in frustration and he roll his eyes without actually wanting to.
"Listen to me now boy."
Sasha stopped and grabbed his shoulder. Her face approached his ear. Then she began to speak so softly that even he had trouble understanding her. Even though they were so close now. "Wild animals distrust people, which is smart. Their instincts tell them when to flee. Run away."
Then she let go of him, Damian stood there petrified.
"W-w-what do you mean by that?" he whispered and opened his eyes wide. "You are too good of faith, like a tame horse." Sasha patted his shoulder. Which only increased his distrust in her.
"So how's it going? Do you really don'r hate us already?"
Damian tore himself free now, his whole body was tense and he clenched his teeth.
"Don't you have any other worries? Hate here, hate there, while we actually have a job to do. We have to conquer the darkness, just because it is not ubiquitous doesn't mean that it won't reappear!"
He was screaming again, not out of hate, but out of desperation and anger. Nevertheless Sasha took a few steps back.
Her eyes wide open, she stared at him, then suddenly dropped her shoulders. Fortunately, they were still standing at the edge of the forest, otherwise you would definitely have heard him screaming inside the building.
"RUN AWAY!", Sasha yelled at him now, while breathing heavily, she came up to him and threw him to the ground.
The arch on his back broke in two and the pain shot up through his back.
A loud scream escaped his throat, but he still tried to free himself from the grip.
"What shoud that?!"
In response, Sasha straightened up and slapped him in the face. With all his might he tried to block Sasha's fists, but she beat the shit out of him.
The pain nearly drowned him. Soon he would pass out. What had gotten into her flashed through his head. Then he was gone.
