Eventually land appeared on the horizon. It's too bad cause I could have stared at that line forever imagining what lay beyond it, thinking about how far my eyes were actually seeing, and how maybe the boat I was on wasn't moving at all and we were just trapped, frozen in time and space. But all thoughts and tea parties alike must come to an end eventually.

The island grew bigger and bigger until we found ourselves in port. It was beautiful. The island was pretty circular and was shaped sort of like a spiral staircase, with its castle at its highest point. The port was in a type of cove. It was bordered by a steep wall-like cliff. On the top of the cliff you could see boys shouting and pushing each other around. I watched them. They were all shirtless and their hair was like a wet mop hanging in their eyes. I could hear them laughing as our ship was tied to the docks. Then I heard a shriek and a few seconds later a splash. When the jumper resurfaced the boys still on top of the tall cliff hooted. The boy who jumped off the 40 something foot cliff swam to where the smaller boats were beached and ran into a cave. The cliffs must be full of old mining tunnels. Sure enough a few minutes later the boy reappeared at the top of the cliff.

I imagined myself falling. Skirts and petticoats up in my face. Weightless, free, laughing.

"Kate!"
I found my feet again, "Coming!"
