⭐Chapter 9⭐
Finally, Zen would be able to join a rehearsal.
Everything was already planned out. Zen would be fine riding in a cab, as long as Sydnee made sure that he had space to stretch out his ankle. He had crutches, so that took care of getting him to and from the cab, and they were just wrapping up the read throughs, so Zen would be able to sit down the whole time. All that was left to do was to actually invite Zen to the rehearsal.
Sydnee wanted it to be a surprise, but maybe she should have told him about all of this the night before. Her plans would run into some trouble if he wasn't already awake...
Well, it was too late for that. She just had to go through with the plan.
She dialed his number, and then paced along the floor in anticipation. Luckily, it wasn't long before he picked up.
"Oh, Zen! Hey, I hope I didn't wake you."
"No, not at all! What's up?"
Sydnee took a deep breath to steady her nerves, then proposed her idea. "Do you wanna come to rehearsal with me today? I know your ankle hasn't fully healed yet, but I'll handle getting you there. And we're still on the read throughs, so you wouldn't have to do any strenuous activity!"
Zen didn't say anything at first, which made Sydnee worry that she had overstepped her boundaries. But then he spoke up, saying, "Wow, you really planned this all out, didn't you? Of course I'll come! Just let me know when you're here to pick me up!"
Sydnee couldn't help the grin that spread over her face. "Yup! I'll be over there as soon as possible, so be sure to be ready!"
"No need to rush, haha. Dressing with this ankle takes some time."
"Ah, right. Is it fine if I arrive in half an hour? We'll still make it to the rehearsal on time."
"Yeah, that sounds good."
"Alright, see you then!"
"Yup, bye Syd! And thank you!"
They hung up, and Sydnee immediately raced to her closet. Now that she had a bit more time to prepare, she wasn't really satisfied with the outfit that she had put on. So she would choose another one!
The sweater dress would look nice, but the off-shoulder top made her look and feel like a movie star. However... hmm, would the other actors think that she was flirting with Zen? Well, she could wear this cute blouse that she bought a little while ago. Pair that with a long-sleeved button up that was a little baggy, some black leggings, blue flats, and sunglasses, and her outfit was complete. Sydnee admired herself in the mirror for a minute, before glancing at the time and frantically running to call a cab. She told Zen she'd be there in half an hour, so she couldn't be late!
A bit of a ride later, Sydnee arrived at Zen's apartment building. She exited the cab, telling the driver to wait for her there. As she approached the building, she caught sight of what looked like Zen doing his best to hide the fact that he was Zen with a hat, sunglasses, and a mask. She waved and ran over to help him to the cab.
"Nice 'I'm not a celebrity' look, Zen," she joked.
"Well, I can't have my fans recognizing me and then trying to track you down just because we went to work together," he said with a laugh.
"Oh, right." Sydnee winced. "Sorry, I didn't think about that. Maybe you can take this cab by yourself and I'll meet you at the rehearsal?"
"Hey, don't worry about it!" Zen rested his hand on her shoulder to comfort her, and she was suddenly grateful that she didn't choose her off-shoulder top. "Let's just go together. I'm sure it'll be fine." He gave her one of his brilliant smiles, and she couldn't help but smile back. With Sydnee's help and his crutches, they both made it back to the cab, where Sydnee somehow fit them and the crutches into the back seat. She gave the driver directions to the theater the rehearsals were held in, and then they were off.
