After what had happened with Kenma, all of the boys did their best to stay with him. They wanted to be there with him in case something caused him to panic again. So far, things have been going alright. It had been two weeks since Kenma shut himself in. All four of them decided to walk to the gallery together. Kenma did notice the excessive presence of his lovers, but he didn't mind it too much. Other than the fact of sometimes needing to use his hands, but they were preoccupied in someone else's grasp.
Bokuto walked up ahead and opened the door for others, and they all thanked him, or in Kuroo's case gave him a long sweet kiss. Which Bokuto gladly accepted as thanks.
Kuroo and Bokuto caught up to the others, and Kuroo interlaced his fingers with Kenma's free hand. While walking back to the room, Akaashi and Kuroo both felt a slight tug at their hands. They both turned slightly to look back at Kenma, who stopped dead in his tracks.
Akaashi lightly rubbed his thumb over Kenma's hand and glanced over to where the latter was looking. His eyes widened once he saw who was there. Akaashi gave a tighter squeeze to the other's hand. "You don't need to talk to her." Kenma shook his head and released a nervous breath.
"I'll be back," Kenma said softly, the words barely audible to anyone besides Kuroo and Akaashi. Akaashi nodded his head, and Kuroo gave him a quick kiss on the forehead.
"Go get 'em, Tiger, we'll be here if you need us." Kenma chuckled a little at Kuroo's choice of words. Kenma walked off and began talking with the mystery lady. The others decided to wait by the front desk wanting to give the two privacy but still be able to keep a watchful eye.
Bokuto and Kuroo in particular were keeping a close eye on the conversation. "You both are acting like an animal watching its prey. Relax" Akaashi, voiced to the others.
"But Akaashi, that's the lady that caused Kenma to freak. Why aren't you more worried?" Akaashi knew it wasn't exactly his place to speak about this matter, but they also had a right to know what he knew.
Akaashi sighed before relaxing back in the chair at the front desk. "She's" Akaashi paused, trying to think of the best way to describe her without the use of profanity, even though that would be the best vocabulary to choose from. "A rather direct person." Akaashi decided to say. "But she wouldn't physically do anything to Kenma."
Kuroo whipped his head towards Akaashi. "Wait, you mean he knows her?"
Akaashi nodded his head, "She's his aunt."
Bokuto and Kuroo both whispered their lines of disbelief at that news. Mostly wondering why Kenma would freak out so badly at the idea of talking to his aunt. All the boys shut up and turned towards the pair, talking a little ways away.
They attempted to pick up anything they could from the conversation. Sadly Kenma was too soft-spoken to be heard from that distance, but his Aunt on the other hand had no problem projecting a few words for the world to hear.
"Kenma...approaching that time...It's been years...coming back." At those last words, Kenma froze up again. The boys watched Kenma turn and make his way to the back rooms.
"I'm gonna go back," Bokuto said before following Kenma.
Akaashi and Kuroo were going to go back as well but saw Kenmas aunt make her way towards Akaashi. They both stopped their advances forward. "Hello Akaashi"
Akaashi stopped and turned towards the woman that walked up to him. "Hello Aunty," Akaashi answered back to the lady.
She sighed and crossed her arms over her chest. "Can you at least try to convince him to come?" Akaashi immediately knew what she was talking about. Still, he knew he couldn't force Kenma to do something he didn't want to do.
"I've tried. We both know that he does what he wants." Akaashi told the woman.
She sighed while massaging the bridge of her nose. "Yeah, he's too stubborn. What a pitiful trait." Akaashi listened to her ramble about her nephew. They were words he had heard all before over the years. Her opinion on Kenma has yet to change after all this time. "Has he even been there? Even once?"
Akaashi knew that he had never been, but he also understood the reasoning. Even for Akaashi, it took almost two years to return. He shook his head and watched Kenmas Aunt sigh in defeat.
"He should get over this, he's being childish" With that said, she turned around and walked out the doors.
"Soo, what exactly is happening?" Kuroo asked, swinging an arm across Akaashis shoulders, leaning his weight on the younger.
Akaashi leaned back against the weight. "Let's get Bo," Akaashi answered, dismissing the question.
They walked back hand in hand, and they were both happy to see Kenma in the studio setting up all of his paints. The windows were all open, and the door was still left open a bit. They were glad that he wasn't shutting down and forcing people away. At least they can help if he needs it.
The pair joined Bokuto, who they figured was in the office.
When they walked in, Akaashi took a seat at Kenma's desk since Bokuto decided to take a seat at Akaashi's desk. Kuroo rudely sat directly on top of Kenma's desk. "You ignored my question," Kuroo said.
Akaashi's shoulders slumped as he leaned further into the chair. "That was Kenmas Aunt." Akaashi restated, he knew Kenma should be telling them all of this, but knew that the half-blond boy would rather die than discuss his feelings about his parents. "Kenma's parents were great people." Akaashi smiled a bit remembering all the happy memories they shared before their passing.
Both Kuroo and Bokuto were sharing confused looks. "That's good, but what does this have to do with what's happening?" Kuroo inquired.
Once again, Akaashi ignored Kuroo's questions and kept telling his story. "They were genuinely loving people, and I looked up to both of them. At times I'd wish that they were my parents, but that was just a silly childhood desire." Akaashi's vision was starting to blur a bit.
"What are you getting at Kashi?" Bokuto asked. His eyebrows scrunched together slightly.
Akaashi waited a minute, staying completely silent. Bokuto and Kuroo were about to back out of their questioning, but Akaashi spoke up again. "Kenma began to stay with his Aunt after both of his parents passed away." Akaashi could feel the stray tears fall from his eyes. They burned. He remembers getting the news and rushing to the hospital afterward. He remembers the funeral and how Kenma began to change. He was always quiet, but now he shuts others out and shuts down.
Akaashi felt the presence of a warm hand brush away the wetness from his eye and another pair of arms wrapped around his shoulders. It wasn't even his parents that had passed.
"We didn't know," Kuroo said.
Akaashi shook his head and held onto the arms around him. "Kenma doesn't talk about it. You guys couldn't have known."
"That still doesn't quite explain why his Aunt was here."
Akaashi sighs. "The anniversary of their death is coming up, and she wants Kenma to go back with her."
The other two were still looking at Akaashi with questioning looks.
"Kenma hasn't returned to the grave since the funeral. That was seven years ago."
Suddenly the older boys picked up on the situation.
Why won't he go back?
