The door slammed open and Jovial came rushing in, and not in his usual ecstatic way. He was neither saluting to anyone nor greeting with a smile. Straight to the top floor he goes and to the director's office.
"He's not here," said Karen, Director Lim's jumpy assistant.
"Any news about Rei Griffin?" Jovial asked.
"No, sir. We've just received the reports today. The MPD and half the Casters are searching for her,"
"Why haven't we heard from Delfin or Eliot?"
"We don't know. We've received the news from Osiris, sir. Nesting Peak's last contact with us was over a week ago."
Jovial looked down and sighed hard as though letting out all the heat that was building up inside him. He thanked Karen and rushed away as he reached down in his pocket to dial Morrigan. "Where are you?" he said.
"Nowhere near Terravir," she answered, "Why?"
"When's your return?" said Jovial and opened the door to the Death Squad Room.
"Tomorrow, I guess? Why? What's with the hysterical tone?"
"They got, Rei," he answered, followed by the whole detail from the arrest to the crash.
He quickly opened his locker and grabbed his yellow laptop. He then proceeded to the bar and began typing. Jovial whipped his wand and it was followed by a flying can of beer; it opened on its own and placed itself near the laptop.
"Don't do something stupid, Jovial. Wait for us, we'll go and get her," said Morrigan on the other line. She was breathing hard as though she was climbing on a wall.
"Can't wait that long, Mori. I have to go and get her," said Jovial, still typing on his laptop.
"You don't even know where they took her," Morrigan replied.
A beeping sound emitted from the laptop and a map appeared on the large monitor placed on the wall.
"I put a tracer in her bracelet — the gift I gave her in the Garden Top."
"Jovial, listen," Morrigan sighed, "Stay in the Guild Tower and wait for us. We'll save Rei —"
"Morrigan, we cannot waste time! As soon as you arrive, follow me there." Jovial blurted and dropped the call. He ran around the room and grabbed everything he will need; his wand and the key to his bike.
While walking down the hall, a Caster approached him. "Sir!" he said. Jovial didn't stop.
"Morrigan sent you, didn't she?" Jovial asked.
"Y-yes, sir —"
Jovial quickly pointed his wand on the foot of the Caster and said, "Inglazio!" thick ice covered the foot of the Caster, preventing him from taking another step. And before he could muster another word, Jovial spoke.
"That is a warning, Caster. Try to remove the ice and I will paralyze you permanently," he said.
"But, sir," the Caster protested. "It is dangerous, you need backup."
"Fine. Once the director appeared, ask him to authorize a strike on this location. I'm still going. I don't care if it cost me my job, understood?"
Jovial transferred all his files to the Caster and proceeded to the next corner. He may have the energy of a kid but everyone still acknowledges the fact that he, and all of the Death Squad, was a warlock; a wizard who does not hesitate to cast a curse, to kill, or to maim.
