Winter

58 days, or 1,392 hours, or 82,140 seconds later, and I can still see the crash like it just happened. It's December 21st now. Christmas is right around the corner, but it doesn't feel like Christmas.

The house is a lot quieter now. No more arguing or yelling. No more funny jokes or laughs. Even the crying is starting to fade away into the deepness of the night.

We all miss him.

I stood naked and exposed as I had just got out of the shower. With water droplets still fresh on my skin I just stood on the bare tile and watched them drip down and hit the ground. I listened to their tiny existence for only a brief moment. Until I assisted the water by adding some of my own.

I cried for the sixtieth day in a row.

----------------------------

"Hey Ember!" Cooper called from the couch as I walked down the stairs. He was wearing a navy blue peacoat with some dark coloured jeans and some old boots. His wavy hair had recently been cut making it look more controlled and slicked to the side. He made my heart skip a beat.

"Hey Cooper!" I glistened as I approached him. I was wearing a comfy pair of jeans and a grey sweater that was to big for me. I also had on a maroon scarf, and to match a knitted maroon beanie April made for me around the beginning of December. I've been spending 90% of my time with Cooper lately. He's the only person who can properly distract me. "You ready to go?" I asked him as I walked to the door and put on a pair of boots.

"Yeah." He said with a smile as he then patted Emily on the head who was sitting on the chair acrossed from him. Cooper had been spending a lot of time around here as well. He's been helping make sure me and Emily don't do anything stupid.

We both exited the house and went over to his car.

"So where are we going again?" I asked as I folded my arms to keep some warmth to me. It was around 24 degrees outside. I could clearly see my breath as I spoke.

"You'll see." Cooper said with a smile that made the cold disappear.

We drove for what felt like hours into the forest. We had small conversation on the way to our secret location about the Great Depression. Even though Cooper didn't come off as smart, he knew his stuff. As the drive continued i listened carefully to the music playing from the car speakers. The music was a harmonious mix of guitar and other strings, making a warm, but distressed tune. It put me to sleep.

-------------------

"We're here." A calm voice told me as I felt a small shake to wake me up.

"Hmm?" I said as I groggily opened my eyes. My glasses had fallen into my lap and I could barely see anything until Coopers face came close enough for me to focus on.

"Wake up girly." He kissed me. "We're here."

I smiled at him and gave a small stretch. As I climb out and put my glasses on, I feel the bone chilling air. We were parked literally in the middle of the forest.

"What are we doing here?" I asked as I started following Cooper.

"Well you see..." Cooper started down an old overgrown trail that seemed oddly familiar. "Even though I'm new to Sky Falls, I've been here many times before..."

'What.'

"My family used to, slash still owns a lake house here, and that's why we knew of this place." He paused for a moment as he helped me climb over a fallen tree that lied in the middle of the beaten up path. I gave him a small curtsy for comedic joy. "And you see, I used to bring friends here all the time." He paused once again as he took off his jacket. He could see I was shivering quite violently and put the jacket on me.
