"Are you crazy? Close the window!" Cooper playfully yelled at me as we were driving into town. It was raining a fair bit, and I felt like sticking my hand out the window.
"Me? Crazy! Preposterous!" I said with a laugh as I closed the window.
It was spring time. Flowers were growing back, and hearts were filled with love and desire. Cooper decided to treat me to a day at the Entertainment Plaza as I had finally gotten my acceptance letter to the University of Chicago, my school of choice. With a 34 on the ACT, and a 1490 on the SAT, I got a full ride. I was officially done with my high school career. With only a month or two left before school was out, and me already set as the valedictorian, it was time for me to relax some.
I was biting my lip as I watched Cooper drive. His shaggy hair and scruffy face gave occasional glances at me as he drove, and when he noticed me smiling at him, he cracked a little smile.
"I'm proud of you." He said as we pulled into town.
"I know." I said with a smile as I kissed his cheek as we parked in front of the arcade.
"So where to first?" He said as he got out of the car into the sprinkling rain. "The movies, roller rink, arcade, comic store?" He looked at me for a response.
"Let's go to the..." I looked up and placed my finger on my chin and thought for a moment. "Roller rink!"
Cooper laughed, causing a warm resonance in my chest. "Alrighty missy, you lead the way." He said pointing in the direction of the roller rink. As we entered I finally realized how wet I got. Thankfully I was wearing a green thin rain slick coat over a soft orange tank top, with a pair of baby blue shorts on. Cooper was dressed in a leather coat and underneath that he had a soft pink button up with suspenders and gray Jeans.
"One pair of size 8!"
"And one pair of size 10" Cooper said as he paid the man behind the shoe collection counter. And with in moments we had our pair of brown leather rental skates.
"Oh man, I'm going to regret this..." Cooper said as he was sitting on the 1990's style dark blue carpet and put his skates on.
"Come on, I'm sure you're not that bad." I said as I put on the skates of my own. My feet felt heavy and awkward, but before I knew it I was skating circles around Cooper as he finished tying his skates. "Come on slow poke!" I said as he tried to get up.
And with a few flings of his arms to keep his balance, he was up on his feet. "Oh lord... Take me now." He looked up into the sky for 'comedic' effect.
"Come on!" I said as I grabbed him by the hand and pulled him out into the rink.
"Wait! I still have your bag on!" He was right. He had on a cream coloured canvas backpack on, it was unfortunately my dreaded time of the month, and all my necessities and meds (which I was on a ton at the moment, because I wanted to enjoy my time) were in it, and Cooper was such a gentleman that he carried it for me.
"Oh you'll be fine you big baby." I said as we started slowly going around. I had to hold Cooper like a young child learning how to walk for the first time. "See? Isn't this fun?" I asked as we made our way about a half of a lap around the rink.
Cooper looked at me with a serious face and said "No." In the most strait forward tone I've heard.
"Good. I wanted you to suffer." I said jokingly.
We continued around the rink a few times with some generally good music playing in the background. Then, by some random luck, Casimir Pulaski Day, by Sufjan Stevens started playing. It was my favorite song.
