Adam POV
Of course we immediately tried to reach Y/N by phone but we had no success. This was not like her and it scared the crap out of me and Kyle not knowing what was going on with her.
Since we couldn't just leave work, we decided to give Y/N some time to breathe and go to her house right after the show to see if she was okay. I had a bad feeling about this thing. It made me nervous not knowing how she was doing and I knew Kyle was feeling the same way.
Once the show finally came to an end, we wasted no time and hurried to our cars and made our way to Y/N. The drive there took what felt like an eternity. After parking, we strode side by side toward Y/N's place. Again, that uncertain feeling rose up in me. Something was not right here. It was somehow too quiet and no lights were lit.
Kyle knocked on the door, but even after several minutes nothing happened. We looked at each other. Concern was evident on both of our faces.
"Get the spare key, Kyle." I said to him and he nodded silently. Kyle retrieved the key, which was meant for emergencies, from its hiding place and opened the door to Y/N's house. Immediately our worst fears were realized. A quick glance around the normally tidy home was enough to see that she had hastily packed up and left. Closet doors were open and so were drawers. Her clothes and shoes were missing, as were some of her favorite photos and mementos.
Again Kyle reached for his phone, hoping she would answer.
"Come on, honey!" he whispered, his brows furrowed.
Dejectedly, he hung up and looked at me. No words were needed at that moment. We both knew that she just didn't want to talk to us. But that didn't mean we would just give up. We needed answers. We deserved answers.
By now one week has passed and still no one had heard anything from Y/N. Again and again we tried to reach her, but she still ignored us. Meanwhile I asked myself if we would ever see her again.
I was getting ready for the pre-show workout when suddenly my phone started ringing. I looked at the display and could hardly believe my eyes. It was a video call from the person I had least expected at this point.
"Oh my god, Y/N! Where the hell are you?" l asked.
"Hey Adam. I'll explain in a minute. Any chance Kyle is near you?" she wanted to know, sounding so tired it caused me further concern.
"Yeah, hang on a second. Kyle!" I called out as he stood at the other end of the gym. I waved him over.
"What is it?" he asked as he reached me. I turned the phone so Y/N could see it.
"Y/N! Finally. What the hell happened?" Kyle asked her immediately.
"Just a moment. Are you guys alone?" inquired Y/N.
"Yes, we are. Now tell me where you are and what happened!" I demanded.
"I'm at the hospital. I had surgery yesterday." she replied quietly.
"What?" spoke Kyle and I at the same time.
"Hunter showed me my test results from the monthly health check last week. My blood work was very bad and one of the doctors noticed a noise from my heart that didn't belong there. They showed me a list of possible reasons for it and one was worse than the other. I just... I just... panicked. So I just packed my things and drove. I needed time to figure it all out, because no matter what the reason would have been... my career is probably over," she explained and I saw her wipe a tear from her cheek. Then she took a deep breath to calm herself.
"The next day I went to the hospital and it turns out I have a heart valve defect. One of my heart valves is not closing properly. That's why they operated on me yesterday." she continued and then showed us the band-aid that went along her sternum.
"Y/N, why didn't you tell us? We would have been there for you! You didn't have to do this alone." Kyle then said and I nodded in agreement.
"I know that. I know you were worried, but... I didn't want to burden you with it. I'm so so sorry. I was so scared and I guess I didn't want you to drop everything for me." she spoke tiredly, closing her eyes briefly every now and then.
"Hey... you're not a burden to us. We would have been right by your side to tell you that everything will be fine." I replied.
"What hospital are you in?" I then wanted to know.
"You are not going to visit me. I don't want you to, Adam!" she replied.
"This isn't just about you, Y/N!" Kyle then said.
"I know. That's exactly the point. And it doesn't matter because I'm not in Florida," Y/N said.
"What, where are you?" l asked, dismayed.
"It... it doesn't matter... I don't want to see you guys right now. I need time to process all this new information. I need to regroup and for that I need space. Please. I'm asking you to leave me alone for a while, guys. Everything is too much for me right now. The... the heart thing is not the only... not the only thing they found. I promise I'll get back to you. And I hope you can forgive me for my behavior. Bye" Y/N replied and hung up before any of us could answer and disagree with her.
While we now had some answers, we actually had more questions. Why was she so stubborn and didn't want any help? Now I could only hope that she would really get back to us. Y/N was a person who stood by her promises, but in this situation I had my doubts.
