Eleanor

4 weeks

I frustratingly sank my teeth into the end of my pencil, leaving nasty dent marks from my teeth as I scribbled down the information from my laptop screen onto my lined paper in front of me.

I was told to take some of my holiday leave for a little while as my manager worried the stress of work was making me unwell so told me to take a rest and work from home if I could for a little while and trust me, it's the most irritating thing in the world.

Sure, I love a good rest once in a while but I cannot rest after the horrible news I've received, and I won't let this affect my job or my work.

I found out about the pregnancy three days ago and I did what any rational human would do in my current situation of an unplanned pregnancy....I ignored it and tried to get on with my life like nothing happened.

Yeah, ignoring your problems won't make them go away. Don't do that.

Lyla has been non-stop texting and calling me and sometimes even dropping round without letting me know to check up on me. It was getting ridiculous at this point. I appreciate she cares about me but she was acting more like I suffered from a severe hit and run, not an unplanned pregnancy! Then again, maybe I made the mistake of telling her first and being the only person who knows.

I tangled my legs together underneath my marble island counter in the kitchen, swinging my thin legs back and forth as I sat on one of the bar chairs that I brought for the island kitchen top. They were so high off the ground and span around, which was easy to get distracted and procrastinate like mad, which is exactly what I was doing. I had a headache from all the stress these last few days with the pregnancy and all, I just wanted to feel normal again and not sick and stressed like I currently am now, I just wanted my old life back before I stupidly got myself into this mess.

I wiggled my toes as they moved underneath my cream coloured socks and my grey joggers sat comfortably around my legs as they cuffed around my ankles, exposing my slightly tanned skin as they lifted slightly up my legs. I sighed tiredly as I gently sipped my water and span back around on my chair, typing away at my keyboard to distract me from my millions of thoughts running through my head.

But below and behold, I heard the keys in the door rattle and I groaned loudly, because there's only one person aside from me who has the keys to my simple one bedroom flat...

"Hey mama." Lyla winked, sticking her tongue cheekily out at me and I rolled my eyes and huffed, eyeing Lyla up and down to how gorgeous she looked with her darkened lipstick and winged eyeliner and her blue plaited pigtails with her skinny jeans and orange jumper and blue converses while I sat there in a messy bun, a pair of old joggers, a worn out shirt and my old framed glasses. Damn it, I wish Lyla looked like a hobo just as much as I did for once.

"So I ran out to the shop and brought these amazing pre-natal vitamins and pregnancy tablets that help with growth and giving all the right nutrients to the baby as well as you and I just thought it would help you out a lot with sickness and tiredness-"

"Yeah well, no offence, but that was a waste of money." I cut her off bluntly as I pushed my glasses further up my nose and typed away dismissively at my keyboard, practically refusing to listen to anything to do with pregnancy or this baby.

I saw Lyla frowning in confusion out the corner of my eye but I pretended not to notice and carried on typing; "what do you mean? I mean, you need this stuff to help, right?" She asked, letting out an awkward chuckle and I looked up at her through my thick frames, "no I don't" I said simply, turning back to my screen as my small hands clicked against the keys and Lyla stood there with her eyebrows knitted and her hand on her hip. "Well why not?" She challenged and I rolled my eyes and huffed.
