I am writing quickly, because my mother is cooking some things for lunch and I am expected to help her. Madeleine is coming today! I am so excited, I can hardly wait another second.
When she walked by me the other day, I just knew we were destined to be great, great friends. I am filled with such joy, I cannot express it in words on this page. I must go now, I hear my mother calling me.
I cannot wait until tomorrow to update you, diary. Madeleine is so kind, beautiful, and lovely. At first she seemed standoffish, but after my mother left the room, she was joking and conversing with me. She was not wearing what she usually does; old men's clothes (probably her father's old clothes), but she was wearing a dress similar to mine. Madeleine looks very beautiful in both dirty old clothes and pristine dresses.
We had a great time together. After we finished eating, my mother said she would care for my siblings while I went to play outside with Madeleine. We climbed on a tree in my censive and sat and talked for what seemed like hours. We spoke about so many things. She told me that the reason she works the farm is because her father is too proud to hire a workhand. He wants people to think he can do it all himself, but really she has to do it because he is weak and sickly. She asked about my siblings a lot because she has none. She was surprised to hear that I care for them and my mother does not.
Madeleine and I have a lot of things in common. We both love to read, we love to be outdoors, and we love to learn. We also have many differences, but I am sure that's only natural for two people who have lived two beautifully different lives. We got along well, and I am so very grateful that my mother thought to invite her for lunch.
Madeleine invited me to her house tomorrow afternoon, she said I could sit with her while she worked on the farm. With that, I knew for sure, our friendship will be great. I cannot wait until tomorrow! I must care for my siblings now, but I will write as soon as I get back tomorrow.
