I feel that my sadness is made worse by Madeleine's absence. So, I wrote a letter to her to explain the situation, it read;
"My dearest Madeleine. I am not ill. My parents are lying in order to seem kind I suppose. I am so very sad, Madeleine. They are forcing me to marry a boy named Henri in a few short months. This news has caused me to stay in my bed since November. I know my mother will not allow us to see each other while I am in this state, so this is the best I can do. I will see you when I can, your Adélaïde." My brother should bring the letter today or tomorrow.
