A/N: I'm no longer going to put the character's name in conversations like I used to (Ex: Ayano: Example text. ) because it was honestly just annoying to have to keep copy and pasting their names.
Ayano POV
"Huh? Monster?"
A/N: Someone commented on the last chapter saying that they couldn't imagine Ryūen saying "Eh?" so I changed it to "Huh" because after thinking about it that's really the noise I wanted him to make. To avoid further confusion if I write "eh" or "huh" just know that they're basically the same noise unless if I make them exaggerated like this "Ehhhh!?" which is like a surprised noise.
"Good evening Ryūen."
We looked at each other in silence. He started looking me up and down. I was confused by why he did this so I looked down too. I then realized it was because I looked quite disheveled. My hair was probably a mess and my clothes had some marks and creases on them. I had to climb on top of the storage unit and crouch down which made my pants appear dirty. Ryūen brought his head back up and started inhaling, a sign that he was about to say something. I looked at him.
"You...why did you lie to Hiyori?"
"If you're talking about how I told her that I was going to stay at the school, I didn't lie. That was honestly my choice, but some things happened and my decision changed."
"You changed your choice?"
"The school never said we couldn't."
Hopefully, he would stop asking questions.
"So you live here?"
My hopes were crushed.
"Yeah."
After hearing my response he put on the widest grin I've seen. He started nodding to himself. I guess he was trying to learn more about me, not that he really would just from this.
"How long have you lived here?"
I decided to ask a question.
He looked up at me with a slight hint of hesitation.
"Kuku, I just started living here today. The owner started spouting some legal bullshit and wouldn't let me live here, so I threw some cash at her face to change her mind. Greedy old hag would do anything for some more cash. How long have you lived here?"
I thought back to when I was typing in the address for the apartment complex into my phone's map app (it's google maps btw). I only glanced briefly at the information that was shown about the apartments, but I remember seeing a review posted 2 weeks ago saying that the owner was a very nice man.
"Ryūen the owner is a man."
After hearing my response he put on an even wider grin than before.
"Kukuku, of course he is. I guess I'm a bit tired. Well see ya around monster."
I paid no mind to his little attempt to test me. I went into my apartment. The first thing I needed to do was take inventory.
There was a pile of boxes. On one of them there was an envelope and in it was a note.

I hope this finds you well Ayanokouji.
I prepared what you asked of me and a little something else. You already have my phone number and I have yours, but just in case I can't contact you please keep this two-way radio on you at all times. Its range may be limited, but it's a last resort.
