Ayano POV

I started to digest the most important information I was just given. That broadcast was most likely real.

No matter what channel I tried to flip to that broadcast was the only thing that was being shown. It's possible if a broadcast station was hacked, but multiple? That's very unlikely. To confirm the legitimacy of it further, I checked my phone and several news sites were saying the same thing.

I had no reason not to, so I decided to follow what it said.

I checked that the doors were locked, made sure all the blinds were closed and turned off all the lights. I had to resort to using a flashlight for now.

There were a few things I needed to get done.

First, what did the broadcast mean when it said: "unofficially dubbed zombies". Where did they even come from? The world has been in a state of panic due to the "phenomenon" that has invaded almost every country, some more than others. It was confirmed that it was not the result of a pathogen, but it could be spread by bodily fluids. That was all I knew at the moment. In the end, it's very little. Instead of answering my questions I only had more. Could I trust this information? I wasn't trying to say someone was manipulating what was being told, but human knowledge isn't absolute. No one was able to say where it came from, that obviously meant that there is a lack of understanding somewhere. I decided to end my useless thoughts. If I couldn't trust the pinnacle of biological knowledge that was used to find out what we had at the moment, then what could I trust? But we obviously still didn't have all the answers, so I should be wary.

It was unknown if the "phenomenon" could be spread via the air. Although it was confirmed that it was spread by bodily fluids. This meant that if I even encounter the infected or their new name zombies, then I should never let them come into physical contact with me. If the previous infected do turn into the zombies then they might show the same symptoms of heightened aggression. So it's not a question of if I have to defend myself, but when. In that case, I need a weapon. A blunt object like a metal pipe would do. I had the tranquilizer gun and some darts, but I didn't know how effective a sedative would be on the zombies. I actually had firearms in my possession, albeit just pistols, but I lacked the ammo. I only had rubber bullets. I'll stick to melee combat for now. Even if I got my hands on a suppressor, guns are still loud. In a country like Japan where the gun laws are very strict, it would definitely draw a lot of attention from zombies and civilians alike.

So I need a good blunt weapon, preferably a long metal rod or maybe a spear or sorts so I can keep my range.

Second, I needed to make sure all the devices I had that were powered by batteries either were fully charged or at least had a charge. I started charging all of the devices that I needed to. The laptop I had gotten from the storage unit was in the car, but I did charge it for a few hours already so it was probably fine. I wasn't completely sure what use a laptop would even have for me at the moment.

Next up was checking the charge of the batteries that I couldn't recharge. This meant that I needed to go outside and get all of the NVGs. They most likely used AA batteries. Even if they were the rechargeable kind, I didn't have anything to recharge them. So I just had to hope they had enough charge.

Going outside was a dangerous option. Under normal circumstances, it would've been fine, but the broadcast recommended staying indoors. Regardless, I was wasting time by not doing anything and I knew I needed to know the status of those NVGs.

After emptying a duffle bag I could probably fit about 10 of the NVGs in it alone. 15 if I really tried cramming them. I could put one on my head, and for the rest, I would have to carry them. I decided to take another empty duffle bag and move at least 10 of the gas masks into the house.
