Keenan raced down the hallway and out into the night. He looked around briefly, but there was no sign of Chari. He wasn't surprised. He quickly powered through the water, following the most direct route to the small home Javen had begun building for himself near the Sovereign's home.

Keenan burst inside without knocking, knowing that time was of the essence.

The single room was empty.

He was too late.

Where would she take the boy? Keenan thought frantically, looking around for any clues that might point him in the right direction. Other than some obvious indication that someone had been scraping through the one wall, there was nothing. And those scrapes could very easily be unrelated.

A lightbulb in his head clicked on.

Poison.

It was her choice method of disposing of someone. She couldn't have had any on her, so she would've had to take Javen to her place to dose him.

Keenan fled from Javen's home and made a beeline for Chari's residence.

He only prayed he wouldn't be too late.
