A week later...

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

It was a routine for Alex to wake me up on my birthday by screaming in my ear. An unfortunate routine.

I slowly opened my eyes and shut them again once the sunlight peaked through the curtain.

"You have to wake up Ella! There is so much planned today. Katie and Leah are coming over!"

"Fine. Ok. Fine Alex! I'm up!" I say as she tugs at my arm.

I followed her downstairs and to my surprise... it was an empty kitchen. Not that I was expecting anything big but... my moms were not even here.

"Ok so what do you have for breakfast? I can probably order something."

I stayed quite thinking of all the reasons why my moms weren't there. Plane crash, bomb, car crash, kidnapping, or just traffic.

"Earth to Ella?" Alex said waving her hand in front of my face.

"Oh sorry. Yes, order whatever you want. I'm just hungry."

"Perfect." She got on her phone and we both sat at the counter.

Not even a text from them...

"Hey Lex... do you know where my moms are?"

"Oh yes sorry. They ran to the office early this morning. They told me to tell you happy birthday and that they love you and will see you later."

"Oh... ok."

A few hours later...

"Ready birthday girl?"

"Ready for my two friends to come over so we can watch movie musicals and eat a shit ton of food and paint? I was born for this."

We laughed and suddenly heard the doorbell ring. Alex opened it and Katie and Leah came inside.

"Happy birthday Ella!" Katie said as she handed me a bag.

"Thanks K." I said giving her a hug.

Katie and Alex walked away to set up the movie so Leah and I sat on the couch.

"Happy birthday El. That outfit looks so cute one you."

I felt my face get hot. Did she just call me cute? No. She called my outfit cute. Two different things Ella.

"Thanks Leah. Actually got it for my birthday last year."

"How sweet. Oh! Here! Open this."

She handed me a gift bag. I opened it and pulled out a dark blue hoodie. In the top corner where the pocket would be, it read "Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital."

"Oh my gosh. I love Grey's Anatomy! Thank you Leah!"

"I see you repost their stuff all the time on Instagram. Oh wait there is something else in there."

I then pulled out a necklace that had half a heart. She moved her hoodie down to reveal she had the other half. My heart just about melted.

"I saw them shopping the other day and thought they were cute."

"Thank you so much! I love them!"

She smiled and Alex and Katie looked over at us and smiled.

The day was filled with so much fun memories. All four of us were 100% on a sugar high while watching the movies. We ended up painting tote bags and then attacking each other with the paint.

10pm...

"Dinner is here El!"

I walked into the kitchen and saw two McDonalds happy meals on the counter.
