It was solo day.

Solo day was the most important part of the summer. With it being July, it meant the summer was almost over. But it also meant I needed to practice extremely hard to get exactly what I wanted.

Was it deserved? I'm never sure. But I knew my moms would be disappointed otherwise.

"WAKE UP!" Lex said shaking me violently.

"IM UP!"

"Just checking because I did not want you to be angry at me again."

"Calm down please." I said swinging my legs off the side of the bed trying to get to the bathroom.

It was then that I realized. Yet again. Didn't smell coffee downstairs. Didn't hear chattering. They left again.

"Lex?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you know where my moms went?"

"To the office... I assume."

I finished my makeup and headed straight to my home dance studio. If I wanted to nail this combo, I needed to get it perfect before I stepped through those doors.

"Let's go or you'll miss your shot at even getting this routine."

I gathered all my things as Alex shoved a banana in my hand.

Then we were off. The car ride was silent today. It usually was when something big was going on.

We walked through the dance doors and from there it was up to fate.

After dance...

The first thing I did after my routine was check my phone. There were two things I was looking for. A text from Leah. And a text from my moms. And there were both.

leah

hey ella

sorry for doing this so late but can we postpone until tomorrow?

got hurt at soccer today :/

Was I disappointed? Of course I was. But I would never make her feel bad about an injury. So I texted back it was plenty ok and did what I was dreading. I opened the text from my moms.

Hi Ella. Hope you have a good day. Let us know about your solo as soon as you get into the office.

mom<3

hi belle-bug
let me know about the solo
before your mama ;)

I turned my phone off and closed my eyes. I would be hearing about the solo right as we would be pulling into the office. And then what? I had to act normal even if I didn't get it? I was supposed to log onto my class and just sit there?

"You're going to be fine Ella. You'll get the contemporary and I'll get the hiphop. We know we got this."

"At this point I'm not even worried about that. Leah is hurt. My moms don't understand me. And I wanna die- I didn't mean that."

What did I even just say? Aren't I supposed to be Little Miss Perfect?

"I know you didn't mean that."

And with that we pulled in. And both our phones dinged.

Alex and I held hands as we opened our texts.
