Tanka - Japanese poem: 5 lines, 31 syllables
Anthology - a collection of literary pieces
Urbana at Feliza - a kind of literary piece which moralizes and was written in a letter between two sisters dwelling in the city and the other in the province
Blank Verse - with a meter but no rhyme
Free Verse (vers libre) - without meter but with rhyme
Narrative - tells a story
Ode - typically serious/ meditative nature, type of lyric
Pastoral - rural life in a peaceful and romanticized way

A. Prose - written within the common flow of conversation sentences and paragraphs
Fiction
1. Novel - has complicated plot - one main plot and many sub-plot with many settings; long narrative divided into chapters
2. Short Story - one main plot and one setting; one or more character, a narrative that can have one setting
3. Fairytales - more on fairy and princess
4. Legends - fictitious narrative usually about origin
5. Drama/Plays - perform on stage has dialogue, divided into act and each act has many scene
~Dramatic Monologue - written in form of speech for individual character
~Soliloquy - a speech by a person who reveals his thoughts
6. Myth - supernatural being
7. Parable - story from the bible
8. Fables - fictitious and they deal with animals talking and speaking like people with the purpose to enlighten the minds of children that can mold their ways and attitude
9. Folktales - story that is fictitious that enlighten the culture of people; stories that reflect peoples beliefs and are handed from generation to generation
10. Anecdotes - historical fiction, writer's imagination and the main aim is to bring out lessons to the readers
Non-fiction
1. Essay - this expresses the viewpoint or opinion of the writer about a particular problem or event
2. Biography - with life of a person himself
3. Autobiography - life of other persons
4. Diary - daily written composition based on life experience
5. Journal - comprises magazines
6. Letters
7. Articles
8. Speech - lectures and oration
9. Blogs
10. Eulogy - message for the death
B. Poetry - refers to those expressions in verse, with measure and rhyme, line & stanza, and has a more melodious tone
Narrative Poetry - important events in life either real or imaginary
1. Epic - extended narrative about heroic exploits of ten under supernatural control; a long narrative poem dealing with persons of heroic proportion and action of great significance
