Chapter 10:

The Return

...

Previously...

"...Is it so terrible to be human?" the younger man murmured softly to him as he turned away to give his brother some privacy.

The anger on older man's face slowly diminished as he hung his head down to hide the emptiness he felt inside, "...It is when being human brings nothing but pain into your life."

The blonde haired vampire hummed, acknowledging his answer as he stood up from the couch. He dusted away the tiny glass pieces spread on his laps and walked out from the foyer towards the main stairs, "But that's what makes it worth it."

SALVATORE'S MANOR – 1864

"-is it true?"

"Yes, mistress."

Damon, who just got back from his outing with his friends, paused suddenly in the middle of his track and looked behind the wall to see Rosalyn talking to one of his house maids. Curious by their conversation, the dark haired male slowly creeped closer and hid himself within the shadow.

"I see..."

A hint of frown instantly appeared on his face as he turned his glance to his brother's fiancée, 'What's going on?' his mind wondered as he struggled to think of something, anything happened while he was gone for the day. Rosalyn sighed and dismissed the maid away.

Without waiting any further, Damon got out from his hiding spot. "...Rosalyn?"

Hearing her name being called, the red haired maiden glanced over her shoulder and quickly plastered a fake smile, "Welcome back, Damon," she said as she walked up to meet him, "How's Edmund and James doing?"

"They're fine," he smiled, "What were you're talking about just now?"

Rosalyn blinked, feeling a tiny bit of surprise by the question as she opened her mouth to dismiss his concern. A sudden feeling of guilt instantly struck her as she paused, 'Should I tell him?' her mind murmured.

A tiny voice instantly replied, 'Is telling Damon about Stefan and Katherine worth it?' it said, 'You could ruin their relationship you know. And for what? Jealousy?'

'But he needs to know,' countered Rosalyn.

After moments of debating with her consciousness, she reluctantly told him everything she heard from the maid. With every words spoken, his face began to change. A moment of tense silence filled the air between them as Damon swallowed the sour taste inside his mouth. He shook his head in disbelieved, "I can't believe this," he muttered, "I can't believe they did this."
