~◇MITCH'S POV◇~

The sound of my phone woke me and Alex up. I looked at the clock, "who is calling at three thirty?" I groaned searching for my phone. I looked at the caller ID and see Kirstie. "Do I ever get a break?" I moaned answering the phone.

KIRSTIE: MITCH! MITCH! PLEASE TELL ME YOU ARE OK!

ME: YES KIRST, I'M FINE. WHAT'S UP?

KIRSTIE: JESUS, HONEY I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PUT THIS BUT CARTER'S IN THE HOSPITAL AND THEY DON'T THINK HE'LL MAKE IT.

Tears start falling down my cheeks as I clutch the phone, struggling to breathe.

ME: OK, DO... Y...YOU WANT US T...T...TO COME DOWN?

KIRSTIE: MITCH, ONLY IF YOUR UP FOR IT. IF YOU DO COME DOWN, I'LL EXPLAIN EVERYTHING.

ME: BE THERE IN TEN.

KIRSTIE: HANG IN THERE MITCHIE, HE'S GOTTEN OUT OF WORST.

ME: THAT'S WHAT SCARES ME, SEE YOU SOON.

KIRSTIE: OK BYE.

I hung up and threw my phone down. I had waterfalls running down my cheeks at the thought of losing one of my best friends. Alex looked at me with a confused look on his face, "Papa, what's wrong? Is everyone ok?" he asked his icey blue eyes looking deep into my chocolate coloured ones. "Not really baby boy but I'll explain everything once we get to the hospital." I said and Alex sighed. I knew how he felt, I'd seen the inside of that hospital to many times. "Go get Daddy and tell him I'll be out in a sec." I said and he nodded, jumping off the bed and rushing into Scott's room. I curled up into a ball on my bed and began crying again, this time heavier. Carter had pulled through some really nasty stuff but would his body cope with another brutal attack. Scott ran in, his hair was all over the place and he tried to quickly fix it as he walked over to me. "What happened?" he asked and I shrugged my shoulders.

"I don't know. Kirst only mentioned he might not make it." I said with more water works streaming down my face. Scott pulled me into a hug, "I can't lose him Scott, he's my best friend." I cried as Scott held me vlose to his chest. "I know babe, he will make it. It's Carter we're talking about." Scott said trying to reassure me. I smiled and wiped away my tears. Alex walked in and climbed up on to Scott's lap. He began fixing my hair back into place, "he'll pull through, if he's the man you all describe him as, then he'll make it." he said. I smiled and kissed Alex's cheek. "Thank you baby boy, now let's go." I stated getting up. We quickly changed and then sped down to the hospital. Kirstie and Kevin were waiting downstairs by reception for us, "hey come one." she said pulling me and Scott towards the elevator. Kevin followed with Alex as we piled in and shot up to Carter's floor.

I knew this floor all to well from high school, I'd spend endless days and nights with Carter in here. I always felt like I caused him so much pain but he always loved me, no matter what. "Kirst, what happened?" asked Scott grabbing my hand for support, "he was attacked on his way home last night, turns out we know Kirk and Lela a little more than we thought. They attacked him with a metal pipe and pretty much beat him to near death." she explained making me start tearing up again. So many memories flooded back to when Carter and me were a little younger, say eight or nine and his parents did something similar except with a baseball bat. We stopped outside his room, I felt the tears come on again but Scott squeezed my hand for reassurance. I opened the door and my heart sank...

~■SCOTT'S POV■~

As we entered Carter's room, Mitch nearly fell to the floor in tears at the sight of one of our closest friends. He looked so peaceful yet so broken. Mitch sat beside him, grasping his hand and crying quietly into the blankets on the bed. I sat beside him and gripped on to his shoulder, every once and a while I'd kiss his cheek or play with his hair but Mitch continued crying. This brought back many memories which also started piece this puzzle together. Let me break it down:

All through high school Mitch was bullied for dating Carter by Kirk and Lela (Alex's birth parents). Also he was bullied by a very jealous Travis, who Carter had beaten up many times on occasion.

One time it was taken to far with Kirk stabbing Carter and Carter almost dying. Mitch had witnessed so many more attacks but it was his and Carter's word against Kirk, Lela and Travis. Anyway this lead to Kirk being sent away to a behavioral school, Lela and Travis stopped bothering my man and Carter but more problems a rose.

Carter had to move school, so before he did so he set me and Mitch up. So Mitch wouldn't be alone after he left. Me and Mitch have been together ever since that day but Mitch was heartbroken when Carter left and didn't speak to anyone for a while. The bullying kicked again since Carter (who was dubbed Mitch's bodyguard) was gone.

I helped Mitch through it with help from Kirstie but Mitch wanted his best friend, the boy he'd known since they were five years old. So we arranged a campaign to get Carter reapplied at our school and it was accepted. Life from then on was fine...

That's how they are so close, it's an unbreakable bond but death might just break it. Mitch eventually fell asleep by crying himself into it. I got us somewhere to stay in the hospital and we all went to bed at five in the morning. When I woke up Mitch had vanished, I guessed he'd went to visit Carter again and let his feels spill over the blankets like earlier. Alex was still asleep and was curled up against Kevin's side. Kirstie had fallen asleep on one of the couches and someone had pulled a blanket over her. I streched out and went to go check on Mitch. When I got to Carter's room, he wasn't there and that's when the panic set in. "Mitch!" I shouted looking around the room, "Mitch, come out please." I said frantically dashing around the room looking for my boyfriend.

"Mitchell Grassi! Where are you?" I shouted at the top of my lungs, "Scott." I heard Mitch say weakly. "Hello Scott." sounded Lela's voice as she walked out holding a gun. "Lock the door, no one else has to see this. This is between old friends." she sneered and I did as she said. Kirk walked out,  holding a gun to Mitch's head and Mith shaking on controllably. "Nice to see you again Scottie boy, do you like our handy work?" he asked motioning towards Carter. "What is wrong with you two? How could you ever produce a boy as sweet as Alex?" I asked throwing my hands about to exaggerate my point. "Daddy! Papa!" I heard Alex shout through the door, "how cute? He calls you Daddy." said Kirk, almost jealous of me. "If your jealous Kirk, it's your own fault. You treated that boy like he was nothing to you." I snapped at him. At that moment, Lela pinned me to the wall, holding the gun to my chest.

"Listen here Scott, you don't Mitch to get hurt. Give us our son and that won't happen." Lela said and I looked at Mitch. "Hoying, don't you dare." he snapped as Kirk tighten his grip. "What's it to be?" Lela asked, I looked at the door as I heard it unlock. Alex walked in, looking extremely mad and ready to do damage. "I. Am. Not. Your. Son!" he screamed throwing an IV bag at Lela causing her to drop the gun. I quickly picked it up and pushed Ally behind me. "Come anywhere near me or my son and I will shoot." I said backing towards the door. "What about your precious boyfriend?" Lela asked...

~☆ALEX'S POV☆~

I was so done with my parents, they'd hurt people I cared about too much and I was over it. This was my family they were hurting and I wasn't gonna let them. I thought up a plan based on a trick I learned when I was seven, Scott was keeping all focus on him, giving me an opportunity. I grabbed one of the chairs and slid it across the room, knocking Lela off balance. I jumped over the chair, grabbed the gun off Kirk and slid on to the wall below the window. Mitch ran into Scott's arms and I raised the gun in my hands. "One step towards me or my family and I will shoot." I snapped, sirens sounded outside causing them to flee but Scott and Mitch blocked the door.

"You're going away for good, somewhere you will never hurt my family again. I am not Alex Moore, I am Alex Grassi-Hoying and you better get use to it because I wouldn't change it for anything in the world, understand!?" I asked and they nodded just as the cops bursted in. Scott and Mitch pulled me into their arms as they escorted my parents away to the police station for the second time this summer.

Everythin was quiet for a minute before...
