I was laying in my bed. Turning over and over again. I couldn't sleep.

I heard some really loud sound, and literally jumped a meter in the air. "What the fuck was that?" I asked myself. I walked over to my window and then I realized that the loud sound was thunder, and it was storming outside.

I hate thunderstorms. I really do. I was so scared after that loud bang that I didn't want to go to sleep again.

"Should I wake Max?"

No, I probably shouldn't do that. We live in the same house, but I don't want to bother him. He's an athlete and he really needs his sleep. So I decided to stay under my covers until the thunderstorm was over.

All of a sudden I heard a soft knock on my door.

"Ye-, yes?". My voice was shaking.

"Joy, are you okay?". It was Max. I was really happy that the thunderstorm woke him too so that I didn't have to do that. He knew me really well and knew that I was afraid of thunderstorms.

"No, I'm scared." I whispered.

"You don't have to be scared, kleine". Kleine, the nickname he gave me like 12 years ago. It's dutch and it basically means "little one". I wasn't that small actually. One meter seventy, I don't see that as small.

He jumped on my bed and wrapped his arm around me.

"I'm here, so please calm down." I really tried, but even after 15 minutes of him hugging me and rubbing my back I was still scared.

"Do you want to come sleep with me?" he asked. You may think it's weird for a boy and a girl to sleep together without having other intentions, but for us it was the most normal thing in the world. We do this almost every week. People used to make fun of our friendship when we were 10 years old, I even got bullied for that. Other kids were always saying that we had a secret relationship and that we were in love with each other. That wasn't true. At least, I think that it's not true. I don't know his side of the story and maybe not even my own.

Was I in love with Max?

"Yes please" I whispered. "Okay, take your pillow and make yourself comfortable in my bed, I will get a glass of water for you." Oh, he is so sweet!

When he came back with the glass of water he crawled in bed next to me and told me to come lay next to him. He rubbed my back and after 40 minutes, I finally fell asleep again.
