Elsa

Elsa wasn't sure if she was doing the right thing as she waited in the clearing for the sun to go down. She knew she should take more time to think things through but-besides for not having the time- she just didn't want to. For her whole life she always had to think things through, always had to make sure to do the right thing even at the expense of her own happiness. But.... where did that ever get her?

Dead....that's what. Dead and alone.

She had given so much to everyone else, why couldn't she take this one thing for herself? She actually had a chance to be happy here, to be normal for once. Why shouldn't she take it?

Because it's wrong? You know this being isn't telling you everything so why would you chance it?

Because I'm lonely.

She squeezed her eyes shut. She couldn't spend the rest of her immortal life making others happy if she was miserable the whole time. The other guardians may be able to do it but Elsa weren't like them. For one they actually enjoyed what they did, she didn't. There really was no joy for her anymore without Jack in it.

They told me not to be selfish....but how can I make the children in the world happy if I'm unhappy?

She wasn't sure she could. She spent the last year since Jack's death trying to do what he did, but she didn't feel any joy in it like Jack used to. How long could she keep pretending? Ten, fifteen years? Longer? She didn't think she could last that long before the emptiness started to eat up what was left of her soul.

Besides....this could be her last chance with Jack, and she knew if she didn't take it now then she spends the rest of her immortal life regretting it.

Elsa sighed as she watched the sun set in the trees casting the area in a warm glow. The yellow and brown leaves swirled in the cool breeze before falling to the ground around her. She sighed and closed her eyes as she listened to the birds chirping and the frogs croaking in the distance, letting it all calm and steady her for what was to come.

Am I making the right choice?

Doubts started to cloud her mind again but she quickly pushed them back as she thought of Jack's smiling face. She remembered him smiling and laughing today as he watched his sister chase a frog to the pond and almost fall in.

He looked so happy..... should I really take that away from him by making him remember?

Before she could start to doubt herself more a sudden hush fell over the area. There was no rustle of leaves or animals moving in the distance just.....quite.

Elsa opened her eyes to complete darkness and shadows.

"I see you came."

Elsa spun around to see glowing red eyes.

Pain.

He smiled and stepped forward. "Are you ready for this?" He showed the vile to her. The vile that would change her life forever. She took a deep breath and held her head high. "Yes." She walked to him and started to reach for it but he pulled it back. "Ah ah, wait. I just need one thing...." He said and before she could react he reached forward and snatched her staff out of her hand. Elsa gasped in shock. "What are you doing?" She tried to reach for it and grab it but he stepped back and held up his hand, stopping her.

"Calm down. I just needed this." He unwrapped the necklace from her staff and held it in his clawed hand. He then held the staff and necklace up in the air and closed his eyes. He started to chant a spell that she couldn't understand. Soon the wind picked up a little and swirled around before dying down again. He then opened his eyes and let go of her staff and necklace, but they didn't fall to the ground. Elsa watched in shock as they floated up in the air all by themselves.

"W-what did you do?" She asked looking at them and then him. Not sure what was going on.

He smiled. "Don't worry. This is just the first step, now...." He held out the vile to her. "Drink this."

Elsa looked up at her staff and necklace in uncertainty before slowly reaching her hand forward. The vile felt warm in her hand as she grabbed it and looked down at the beating heart. She felt like she was holding a real heart in her hand.

He chuckled. "Don't be so scared. It's much tastier than it looks."

Elsa looked up at him. "Will it....hurt?" She had to ask. She rather be prepared then not prepared.

He frowned. "You might feel a twig of pain and discomfort, but it's normal. You're body will be changing from a powerful immortal to a plain mortal after all."

Elsa frowned. "Does that mean I won't have any of my powers?" She asked. She never been without powers before. Ever since she was a little girl, she had powers but if she took this..... she would be totally normal.

That's what I've always wanted before but.... how will it feel to be normal? To be totally.... human?

Pain looked at her. "I can see you have never been without powers before but don't worry, it will just be temporary. That's if...... you do choose to stay human after all." He smiled. "Now drink."

Elsa could see a gleam in his red eyes that she didn't like but she already came this far, she couldn't go back now. Thinking of Jack's smile and laughter gave her the courage to slowly uncorked the vile and bring it up to her mouth.

What are you doing? You shouldn't be doing this! You know you shouldn't!

Maybe not......but it was also something she needed to do.

She tipped her head back and down the liquid in one gulp. It tasted sweet but bitter too with a slight matlic after taste. Kind of like-

Blood.

Instantly a cold sweat broke out and infused her entire body as a burning pain started to grow inside. Elsa gasped and fell to her knees holding her stomach.

God what is this... pain?

Suddenly the wind picked up around her, whirling around and around in front of her like a tornado. She looked up through glazed eyes to see pain holding his arms out as the tornado spun around her staff and necklace. The tornado lit up as sparks shot everywhere out of it. Pretty soon shadows that looked like long, gangly hands shot out from the tornado.....and straight into her chest.

Elsa screamed out in pain as the hands pierced inside of her chest, poking and probing like they were looking for something. She felt like they were gutting her as they stabbed and scratch at her insides, making her feel like she was dying all over again.....only worse.

Elsa continued to scream as the wind whipped around her until she felt something tugging at her very soul it seemed and trying to rip it out of her. It fought back but with one final painful yank the fingers pulled it free and retreated from her body. She gasped and landed on all fours on the ground. When she looked up, her eyes widened as she saw the dark smoky fingers holding a blue light in their hands.

Is that....my powers?

No.....that's my immortal soul.

The fingers retreated into the tornado again as the blue light retreated with it into the tornado of darkness. Light lit up around the area as the wind grew faster and faster. Elsa felt like her insides were melting and reforming, becoming into something else before changing back again. She felt like everything was changing for her, she felt like she was changing.

For the first time ever, Elsa broke out into a sweat as a burning heat infused her whole body. She looked up and over to pain to see him smiling and laughing with evil delight. She tried to get up and grab for the tornado and her staff but it suddenly disappeared along with her staff. But her necklace was still there glowing..... but blowing red now.

What have I done?

Her eyes closed in Exhaustion as she then fell to the ground, letting the darkness take her into blissful sleep.
