THANKFULLY, before any of them could question why I laughed, Mukisa barged in alongside Sir Anthony. The situation was quite humours, to me at least. I suppose it was because I was never one for superstitions. Most of all, our Charlotte was anything but poise.
Eventually, I found myself zoning out into my thoughts, my eyes accidentally locked with Sir Anthony's worn-out ones for what felt like years, and I quickly averted my gaze.
''I apologise for my tardiness father.'' Mukisa pardoned himself. He took a seat beside me, and Sir Anthony stood behind him like a loyal servant.
"Then we shall commence the meeting.'' The king began. After a few minutes of his impractical rambling (that was hammered through everyone's ears), I grew irritated at waiting for him to inform us of the precise reason why the meeting was even organised.
Drawing me out of my mind, he started '', My son, soon I must pass over the light of this kingdom into your hands." Father exalted, ''It will always be my dying wish that you preserve our countries honour.''
He smiled, ''Of course, father, it is one of my many duties.'' Crown princes did have various responsibilities to tend to such as: foreign relations, law making, and enacting decrees. It pained me knowing that Mukisa never had the chance to properly exercise his birthright due to his early death.
''Recently one of my lieutenants brought a concerning subject to mind, I wish to be enlightened with your views on the matter.'' His eyes trailed around the room for a bit.
But something just didn't quite fit right.
I pondered about it for a while. My understanding was that he was trying to see how each of us would handle the matter. It was impossible for a king's many councilmen, advisers, and captains to have not already established an answer to the "problem". So there was no need for him to concern himself with our opinions.
Which meant he wanted to examine our ability in comparison to his men.
''We are in dire need to expand our naval forces, specifically battleships, but we lack the finances to do so, as well as adequate resources to begin constructing them.'' He spoke briefly. If this was a real situation, and not some sort of test, he would have told us the exact amount of finances we needed, and just how many damned battleships we required.
''May I answer, father?'' Charlotte buzzed, and she was granted a nod of approval from the elderly man, ''I believe we should increase the weight of our taxes on the people, that way we will have more income to build the battleships and afford resources. Additionally, we should send all those repellent slaves back to their land as they are soiling our economy.'' She spoke with pride. Her argument was not illogical, but it was flawed I observed. It was almost humorous how confident she sounded after spewing utter nonsense. Her plan was faulty and lacked dynamic. If anything, she probably wanted an increase in taxes so she could have a bigger allowance.
