I THINK I was only a babe when it was built, but rumour had it for the Queen's coronation; her first act of service to our beloved nation was to open up a casino, at the very centre of our capital. All the profits would go to fattening Renia's vast amount of wealth, of course, and not to the welfare of the Alkebulan people.Usually, I would refrain from making such spontaneous decisions without thorough planning. But I was an opportunist at heart. So why not The Grand Casino?
''Anywhere you wish me to go, I will go!'' Mali exclaimed in excitement.
Everything had been organised for their new positions; all that was left was for me was to write a formal letter alerting the King of my ladies in waiting to legitimise their offices. I had been putting it off, I dreaded interacting with the man.
Mali and Elizabeth had now comfortably situated themselves into the chambers beside me and after hours of animation, Mali was slowly calming down. I couldn't ridicule her for her fascination. Every tile, corner, and edge of the palace was horridly luxurious. It was unquestionably an upgrade from the modest servant quarters she grew fond of. On the other hand, Elizabeth was more relieved than delighted; no more would she have to worry about residing in ghastly lodges under the watchful eyes of demanding landowners. At least that's what her facial expressions narrated. As for myself, I was far from satisfied. There was still so much for me to do. It seemed as though I was at the ruthless mercy of time.
After a pensive look, I decided to reveal the destination. "How about a casino?"
Elizabeth turned her head in shock and Mali became wide-eyed ''A CASINO? Where immoral men lounge around and tricksters pick their victims!'' She continued, ''That is no place for a dignified princess such as yourself!''
''Well, it wouldn't be that bad as the festive season is approaching. And our most renowned tourist attraction is The Grand Casino. It would be a good chance for us to get easy funds seeing as many people will be attending. The risk is worth the reward.'' Elizabeth thought deeply.
''Precisely.'' I commended her. ''Don't fret Mali, we shall wear commoners' clothing and I shall handle any guards who may be in our way.''
''That's not what I'm concerned about. How will we get there? and how will we ever return back! What if we get caught?'' Mali anxiously questioned.
''I know several routes in case we can't utilise the main entrance. I will not let anyone harm either of you.'' I glanced at the ivory clock that ticked in my room, it was getting late.
''And thankfully, The Grand Casino requires all visitors to wear masquerade masks, so no one shall notice us Mali." Elizabeth consoled her.
''But... I don't know how to gamble, what If I leave with no money? I don't wish to let you all down. We are a team."
