“I’ll need you guys to work some more hours from now on.” Owen announced as I sighed. I dug the fork into my salad and just played with it, this makes me upset and they don’t even realize.
Like seriously, why did they serve me salad when they know I don’t like vegetables? Do they even know me at all? I think they just want to watch the world burn.
“But we’re already working our asses off!” Ben exclaimed as Owen just stared at him.
“You’ve worked two hours this week.”
Ben scoffed, “The week has only just started!”
“It’s Friday,” Owen finished as Ben rolled his eyes.
“At least he showed up,” I shrugged as Ben nodded in my direction. “I mean, that’s the most he’s ever worked since last month.”
“And he actually made a pizza without shagging someone in the cold room this week.” Daniel chipped in
“Improvement,” Ben said enthusiastically with a grin.
“Well it’s still not enough.” Owen sighed while resting his head in his hands. He was quite for a few moments, only the sound of forks and knives digging into the plates lurked about. “Molly quit…” he said in barely a whisper.
Everybody stopped.
“What do you mean she’s quit?” Daniel asked softly.
Molly is Owen’s girlfriend; they’ve been dating for seven months. She was breathtakingly beautiful, incredibly smart, hilarious, kind and good at COD; everything a man could dream of. I haven’t seen him this happy with someone since our parents died.
“Did you guys break—”
“So Ben, you’ll be working tonight night and closing up.” Owen cut off before Daniel could finish his sentence.
“Uh…” Ben mumbled. “I’m… busy tonight. I’m leaving in fifteen minutes.”
Daniel scoffed, “Sure.”
“What, I am!” He shouted, “I need to help James with his garage tonight.”
“I’m glad you’d rather help out a guy you’ve only just met than your own family,” Daniel laughed. “I’ll work tonight.”
“Thanks,” Owen smiled. “So Mia, have you got any plans for tonight?”
“Yeah,” I said while pushing the lettuce the away from my plate. “I’m staying the night at Beth’s.”
“You’re always at Beth’s house,” Daniel acknowledged sourly. In a way, I don’t think he’s too fond of her. “What do you guys even do?”
Party, get drunk; “We usually just hang out. Nothing much,” I replied casually while standing from the table.
“What’d you expect?” Ben laughed, “She’s not exactly the party animal type.”
Oh Benjamin, you’re so oblivious.
“It’s not my fault; I just really hate the taste of alcohol. It makes people do idiotic things.” Like being handcuffed to a bed, “That’s why Beth and I are friends; we don’t like those sorts of people.”
We love them.
“Well I’m proud of you both,” Owen smiled as Ben chuckled.
“Proud that our little sister has only one friend and they both happen to be losers.” He said while grabbing his plate, “We should be proud.” He finished as I punched his arm. “Ouch!”
