"DRAY... I HAVE something to tell you." It was time. She had to tell him sooner or later. It would be better for him to hear this from her, not someone else.
"Yes love?" His attention never broke from the book in his hands. She turned around to shut his prefects dorm room door.
"Dray... We need to talk." She said, trying to keep her voice even. She failed. The breaking of her heart reflected in her voice, a sine shake that alerted draco.
She had to go back...
"Love, what is it?" He spoke softly, laying his book down and shifting his weight so he was sitting up straight. He grabbed her hand, intertwining their fingers.
"I uh... Have to tell you something. A-and it may sound crazy, and weird, and like a bloody fantasy book... but I have to tell." She says, her voice breaking slightly. Taking a moment, she looks away from the bleached haired boy to let her face fall, a silent sob leaking out.
She turned back to face him, she had to get it out.
Taking a shaky breath before, she continued, "I'm... Not from here. Well... That could've been worded better. I'm... From a different reality." She said, finally looking him in the eyes. She could hardly see, eyes too fogged with tears.
Draco let's out a light chuckle. She looks away.
"[Y/n]...you can't be serious. Did the weaslybee twins put you up to this?" He said turning her face so they make eye contact.
He sees no falter.
No break in acting.
Just... Pain.
"You're... Not joking?" He asks, face contouring in confusion. How could the even happen? People moving realities.
"I can't really explain it. It's hard. But, essentially, your reality isn't mine. I do a thing called shifting. I basically go to sleep... And wake up here sometimes. Most of the time it's like time stops here... But I just can't do it anymore." She let's out. She did it. The hard parts over.
Or so she thought.
He let go of her hands. Looking away, trying to figure everything out.
"Why?" Is all he asks.
"Why what? Why does it work? I don't know. Why can't I do it?" She hesitates, "Because I love you. And I can't let you fall in love with me. Not when I'm from a whole different reality." She says, he stands. He looks at her, she does the opposite. It's like shes already left.
"Well it's too late for that! Can't you see? I bloody love you already! I've loved you before you ever loved me. How... How can you do that? How can you know you can come back here, but you just don't. Are you even... Real? It's like I'm dreaming. None of this makes sense!" He let's out everything he has been thinking through the moments of silence.
"I know it doesn't make sense, I can't make sense of it and I'm the one doing it!"
"You're just going to completely ignore everything else?" His voice breaks. He's been looking away this whole time. Not to put space between them... Or maybe it was. He doesn't know. He just knows she doesn't want her to see him like this.
"I... It hurts too much to talk about. I'm leaving tonight. I won't be here tomorrow." She looks at him for any semblance of a reaction.
Nothing.
"Dray?" She speaks, standing to try and touch his shoulder.
"Why did you have to come? Why did you have to make me fall in love with you and then leave?! How dare you..." When he finally turns around you see why he was turned in the first place.
The paleness of his skin was drained even more. His eyes always resembled icy water... But now... It was too close. Having tear marks down both his cheeks, his eyes already red from rubbing.
"I'm sorry..." Is all she could get out. She was making this harder by staying.
"Well you should've just stayed where ever the hell you were! It would've been better than to break everyone's hearts here!" He wasn't angry. No matter how much his tone reflected that. He wasn't. He was hurt. Heart broken. She was the over of his life, he was sure about it.
Now to find out she wasn't even from the same reality? That everything they had was possibly fake? Maybe even she was?
"I love you draco... Goodbye." She says standing, turning to leave.
Draco grabs her wrist, as much as he says he wants her gone... He can't let go. He doesn't want her to leave, he never did.
She looks back at him over her shoulder, shocked that he even moved. "Dray?" She let out.
Without even thinking, tears still streaming down each of their faces, he leaned in and cupped her face in his hand. Pulling her face to his, he kissed her.
He kissed her as if it were their first time.
Even if it were their last.
Before he could even say "I love you" back to her, before he could say his goodbyes, before he even opened his eyes... She was gone.
Where she had just been... Vacant.
Air.
Empty.
Just like his heart.
"I love you." He says to no one. "Goodbye."
