Warnings: cursing and major feels (sad angst)

A/n: so this is a song based chapter, so I recommend listening to it before but you don't have too. Also, Peter isn't spiderman in this, but everything else is the same.

December 3. 2018

"Here, I have a present for you. It's nothing big but, I think you'll like it." Your best friend since elementary, Peter, said handing you a orange sweater for your birthday.

"Pete, you didn't have to." You said sweetly, holding the article close to your chest.

"I remember letting you borrow it and you liked it. Plus it looks better on you than it does me." He said smiling, a blush slowly rising on both your faces.

only if you knew
how much i liked you

Your crush for Peter at the time wasn't one sided, soon you two became a couple.

Sweaters were your guys' thing, every anniversary you both would get each other another sweater. His favorite sweater you got him being a blue and [your favorite color] handmade tye dye one. He loved it because you made it, saying the colors were like your relationship, you guys mixing together in a "never ending spiral of love."

but i watch your eyes, as she

what a sight for
sore eyes
brighter than a
blue sky

But recently Peter's been... Distant. He didn't sit with his normal group; you, Ned, and sometimes Michele. He'd been studying with Liz, saying she'd needed help and went to him as to not "embarrass herself to anyone else." You missed him so much, and you voiced this to him, he just apologized saying he would spend more time with you, but continued doing what he was before.

Then you saw it, Liz Allen wearing his sweater. His favorite sweater, the sweater you had made. The sweater that you said described your relationship.

You'd gone home that day, just thinking that maybe Liz liked the sweater and had someone make one like it for her. You'd thought of a million reasons why she'd have his sweater. The only realistic ones breaking your heart.

she's got you mesmerized
while i die

You had texted Liz, asking her where she got the sweater, saying you'd liked the way it looked and wanted to get one like it. You had to make sure you weren't delusional.

She texted back: "Oh, I don't know where it came from to be honest, lol. Peter gave it to me one day when we were hanging out."

And your heart broke all over again.

You texted Peter, saying it was an emergency. You needed to talk to him, needed to clarify this. You needed to make sure this wasn't true.

Half an hour later you heard a knock at your door. You wiped the tears that had fell, and took a deep breath before opening the door.

"Hey, [y/n]. What's wrong? You said it was an emergency!" He said stepping inside and looking around.

"Yeah, it kinda is an emergency." You swallowed thickly. Peter just looked at you confused.

"Ok... What? Was there a spider?" He laughed, but when you didn't reciprocate, he quieted down.

"What's going on with you and Liz?" You asked crossing your arms tightly in front of you. It was a small gesture but it was a way of protection yourself from the impending confrontation.

"What? Nothing. Why would you- nothings going on." He said walking closer to you.

"You've been sitting with her, everyday. It's not even that big of a deal that you don't sit with me, but without Ned too? Michelle? You've dropped everyone to be by her." You said, eyes slightly welling with tears.

"[Y/n], let me explain." He said, walking closer, planting a kiss on your cheek.

"Why would you ever kiss me? I'm not even half as pretty! You gave her your sweater!" You yelled pushing his shoulder. The kiss finally broke you and the will to hold back your tears.

"It's just polyester!" he yelled back, throwing his hands up. The anger on your face quickly turned to hurt.

"Just polyester!? Is that all it is to you!?" You ask rhetorically. "You know what it doesn't matter! You like her better!" You shouted, being done with this whole situation.

"[Y/n] just-" He stepped closer, causing you to interrupt him.

"Get out!" You yelled. When he didn't move it prompted you to scream. "GET OUT! We're done! Keep the goddamn sweater."

Instead of arguing further he just walked out, sparing you one last glance that you didn't see, leaving the door open as he left.

You walked over to the open door, calmly shutting it. You leaned against the cool wood, sliding down and letting your pent up tears finally fall freely. Slamming your fists into the ground over and over until you were done, and had nothing left inside you.

You laid down on the hard floor, curled up, one finale sob raking through your body when you shut your eyes to sleep.
