We continued to talk. "Hey it's okay." John said. "I've really missed you." I said. "I've missed you, too." John said. We hugged each other. "I tell you, Jason. This stinks." Rocky said. "Oh, sorry." Jason said. "Not you, them. Him, her alone." Rocky said. "What's wrong with that?" Jason asked. 🎶Rocky: I can see what's happening.
Jason: What?
Rocky: And they don't have a clue.
Jason: Who?
Rocky: They'll fall in love. And here's the bottom line. Our trio's down to two.
Jason: Oh.
Rocky: The sweet caress of twilight. There's magic everywhere. And with all this romantic atmosphere disasters in the air.
Ariel: Can you feel the love tonight? The peace the evening brings? The world for once in perfect harmony with all its living things.
John: So many things to tell her. But how to make her see the truth about my past? Impossible, she'd turn away from me.
Ariel: He's holding back. He's hiding. But what, I can't decide. Why won't he be the alpha I know he is, the alpha I see inside.
John & Ariel: Can you feel the love tonight? The peace the evening brings? The world for once in perfect harmony with all its living things. Can you feel the love tonight? You needn't look too far. Stealing through the night's uncertainties. Love is where they are.
Rocky: And if he falls in love tonight it can be assumed.
Jason: His carefree days with us are history.
Jason & Rocky: In short our pal is doomed.🎶
Both of them started to cry. John showed me all around their home.  "Isn't this a great place?" John asked. "It is beautiful... but I don't understand something. You've been alive all this time. Why didn't you come back to our territory in the forest?" I asked. "Well, I just needed to get out on my own... live my own life. And I did, and it's great." John said. "We've really needed you at home." I said. "No one needs me." John said. "Yes we do. You're the alpha." I said. "Ariel, we've been through this. I'm not the alpha. Branden is." John said. "John, he let the mountain lions take over the forest." I said. "What?" John asked. "Everything's destroyed. There's no food, no water. John if you don't do something soon... everyone will starve." I said. "I can't go back." John said. "Why?" I asked. "You wouldn't understand." John said. "What wouldn't I understand?" I asked. "No, it doesn't matter. Hakuna matata." John said. "What?" I asked. "Hakuna matata. It's something I learned out here. Look, sometimes bad things happen--" John said. "John--" I said. "And there's nothing you can do about it... so why worry?" John asked. "Because it's your responsibility." I said. "Well, what about you? You left?" John asked. "I left to find help, and I found you. Don't you understand? You're our only hope." I said. "Sorry." John said. "What's happened to you? You're not the John I remember." I said. "You're right. I'm not. Now are you satisfied?" John asked. "No, just disappointed." I said. "You know, you're starting to sound like my father." John said before he started to walk away. "Good. At least one of us does." I said. He turned to face me. "Listen, you think you can show up... and tell me how to live my life? You don't even know what I've been through." John said before turning away from me again. "I would, if you just tell me." I said as he walked away. "Forget it!" John said. "Fine!" I said. Soon enough, it got dark. "She's wrong. I can't go back. What would it prove, anyway? It won't change anything. You can't change the past." John said as he was pacing back and forth. Then he looked up at the sky. "You said you'd always be there for me! But you're not. And it's because of me. It's my fault. It's my fault." John said before crying a little. He walked onto a log over a pond and while looking in the pond Koda threw a small rock into the pond and was singing a song. "Come on, will you cut it out?" John asked before walking away from him. "Can't cut it out. It'll grow right back." Koda said as he started to follow John. "Creepy little bear. Will you stop following me? Who are you?" John asked. "The question is who are you?" Koda said. "I thought I knew. Now I'm not so sure." John said. "Well, I know who you are. Come here. It's a secret." Koda said as he pulled John closer to him. He whispers part of his song in his ear and sings the rest of it. "Uhh! Enough already! What is that supposed to mean anyway?" John said. "It means you're a baboon, and I'm not." Koda said. "I think you're a little confused." John said. "Wrong! I'm not the one who's confused. You don't even know who you are." Koda said. "Oh, and I suppose you know." John said. "Sure do. You're Zack's boy." Koda said. John turned to him. "Bye." Koda said. Then he leaves while John goes after him. "Hey, wait!" John said as he went after Koda. When he finally caught up with him he stopped in his tracks next to him. "You knew my father?" John asked. "Correction-- I know your father." Koda said. "I hate to tell you this... but he died a long time ago." John said. "Nope. Wrong again! He's alive and I'll show him to you. You follow old Koda. He knows the way. Come on!" Koda said. Then John followed him. "Don't dowdle. Hurry up!" Koda said. "Hey, whoa, wait, wait." John said. "Come on. Come on!" Koda said. "Would you slow down?" John asked. After a while Koda told him to stop. He slid to a stop. Then he pulled some tall grass aside. "Look down there." Koda said. John walked down to the pond and looked into the pond. "That's not my father. That's just my reflection." John said. "No. Look harder." Koda said. John looked into the pond again but this time harder. His reflection turned into his dad's reflection. "You see? He lives in you." Koda said. "John." Zack said. "Father?" John said as he looked up at the sky. Zack's ghost showed up. "John, you have forgotten me." Zack said. "No, how could I?" John asked. "You have forgotten who you are... and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, John. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place as alpha of the pack." Zack said. "How can I go back? I'm not who I used to be." John said. "Remember who you are. You are my son, and the one true alpha. Remember who you are." Zack said as he faded away. "No! Please, don't leave me." John said as he started to run towards his dad's ghost. "Remember." Zack said. "Father." John said. "Remember." Zack said. "Don't leave me." John said as he stopped in his tracks. "Remember." Zack said one last time before completley fading away. "What was that? The weather. Very peculiar, don't you think?" Koda said. "Yeah. Looks like the winds are changing." John said. "Ahh, change is good." Koda said. "Yeah, but it's not easy. I know what I have to do... but going back means I'll have to face my past. I've been running from it for so long." John said. Then Koda hit him on the head with a stick. "Ow! Jeez! What was that for?" John asked. "It doesn't matter. It's in the past." Koda said. "Yeah, but it still hurts." John said as he rubbed the top of his head. Then he looked at his paw and put it back on the ground. "Oh, yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it... or learn from it." Koda said before trying to hit John on the head again. John ducked that time. "Aah! You see? So, what are you going to do?" Koda asked. "First, I'm going to take your stick." John said as he grabbed the stick with his mouth and throws it into some nearby grass. "No, no, no, no! Not the stick!" Koda said. Then he noticed John walking away. "Hey! Where are you going?" Koda asked. "I'm going back!" John said. "Good! Go on! Get out of here!" Koda said. That morning I woke up Rocky and Jason. "Hey. Hey, wake up." I said. Then Rocky and Jason screamed. "It's okay! Whoa, Whoa! It's okay! It's me!" I said. "Don't ever do that again. Carnivores--oy!" Rocky said. "Have you guys seen John?" I asked. "I thought he was with you." Rocky said. "He was, but now I can't find him. Where is he?" I asked. Then Koda shows up. "You won't find him here. The alpha has returned." Koda said. "I can't believe it. He's gone back." I said. "Gone back? What do you mean? Hey, what's going on here? Who's the bear?" Rocky asked. "John's gone back to challenge Branden." I said. "Who?" Rocky asked. "Branden." I said. "Who is Branden?" Jason asked. "It's his uncle." I said.
