"I feel energized and ready to go," I look myself over in the full-body mirror right outside the bathroom. I'm wearing a white t-shirt with a blue and grey flannel over it, jean shorts, and white high-top Converse. A pair of sunglasses rest atop my head as my hair is pulled into low pigtails. I have a simple black mini backpack to hold various items.
Bucky and I woke up early due to falling asleep early last night and had time to have a big breakfast thanks to room service before getting ready. Today we need to visit an outdoor shopping center, and then just travel around the city looking for anything out of the ordinary.
"Ready to go doll?" Bucky steps out of the bathroom.
I feel my breath catch in my throat as I look over my fake husband.
Bucky's wearing a black t-shirt with a faded blue jacket that is reminiscent of a forties jacket I've seen him wear in pictures, scuffed up jeans, black utility boots, and a Yankees baseball cap. His metal hand is obvious, but he has stated that he'll keep his hand in his jacket pocket all day. He took a shower after me, so his hair looks extremely soft. I just want to run my hands through it.
"You're beautiful in anything, doll," he leans down to press a kiss to my forehead. "How do I look?"
"Like you know exactly how to dress even seventy years after your prime," I grin, grabbing his flesh hand and intertwining our fingers. "Who helped pick this all out?"
"Sam," he shoves his metal hand into his jacket pocket. "He said you'd like it, and I kind of just did whatever he said you'd like."
"Well, I like it, a lot." I tug us to the door. "Now, let's get this mission started."
It takes a few minutes to get down to the lobby and then exit the hotel. I've memorized the map, so I lead us exactly where I need to go. Steve and Natasha have been out scoping out their areas for an hour or so now, as the early birds that they are. Wanda and Sam are stuck in their hotel room, using Redwing to take a look from the air.
"You two finally leaving?" Natasha's teasing voice fills my right ear.
"We can't leave too early or it destroys the honeymoon story," I respond. "A newlywed couple would sleep in, order breakfast, and then head out."
"She's right, Nat," Steve speaks up.
"The people at the front desk smiled at us with this knowing glint in their eye," Bucky chuckles. "If only they actually knew."
Bucky and my evening ended about as opposite of how a newlywed would as possible. I finished my book snuggled into his side as he wrote away in his notebook and watched TV. It was a night that I want to happen again.
"Maybe you'll upgrade to that, oldie," Sam's chuckle crackles over the earpiece.
"I'd appreciate it if you didn't talk about my sister in that way," Steve says.
"Do you still say language, Steve?" I giggle.
"I'm not a prude anymore. I can swear."
"Since fucking when?" Bucky questions.
"Just shut up and get on with your part of the mission," Steve grumbles. "And when did you start talking like that, Buck?"
"Since I woke up in the future."
I bring my sunglasses down to cover my eyes as I lead us to the outdoor shopping complex. "Are you prepared to buy me cute things, James?"
