Grassy sat on the river bank, the cool water surrounded him as it lapped at the shore. The river was the perfect place to be on a hot summer day! Now, Grassy should have been less... happy with the recent happenings, but he was a child. He didn't know any better. Blocky and Basketball were sitting not far, watching the kid they'd been raising.
"Do you think he understands what's happening?" Blocky whispered. He felt bad for the young cat. So much death had occurred lately, and Grassy had seen some of it. Luckily not all of it. "Probably not. He's a kid... he doesn't even know what death means..." Basketball sighed. The two continued to watch the kid, before deciding to have a bit of an adult conversation. One about the deaths that had been happening. Basketball walked up to Grassy, to tell him where she and Blocky were going.
"Hey, Grassy, me and Blocky are going to have an adult conversation. We'll be just behind those trees, okay?" Basketball told the young cat. Grassy just nodded, smiling. Basketball and Blocky then walked out of sight, leaving Grassy all alone. Grassy slowly grew scared, he was never alone. Not like this. There was always someone watching him. But now... there wasn't. Then, he heard a quiet snap. Like a twig being broken.
"Blocky? Basketball?" Grassy called. Just then, a large figure leaped out of the bushes, their fur was copper, and their claws were reaching for the kitten. Before Grassy could react, he was slammed onto the ground. "I'm sorry, Grassy." A familiar voice croaked. That was the last voice Grassy heard before he was just another dead cat among the others. Another tragedy. As the cat who attacked him left, a ray of sun glinted over their shoulder. On it was a symbol. A coin.
Blocky made his way back to where they'd left Grassy, and to his horror, his adopted son lay lifeless on the ground. He and Basketball rushed over. They shook Grassy and tried to put pressure on the wound so it wouldn't bleed. However, the bleeding had already stopped. Grassy was already gone. Basketball let out a wail of grief. Blocky just stared in shock. They'd left him alone for only a few minutes... and now he was gone. Both of them sat there for... god knows how long. Finally, someone had gone to look for them. The person sent was 8-ball. What he found wasn't what he expected.
"What happened here?!" He exclaimed, horrified at the scene. Blocky looked up at him.
"We only left him alone for a few minutes... then someone... someone..." Blocky couldn't get the rest out before he started to sob.
"Let's get the body back to the clearing... so we can bury the body..." 8-ball sighed. Blocky nodded and nudged Basketball. Basketball stood up on shaky legs and picked up the small body gently. 8-ball then started to walk back towards the clearing, Blocky and Basketball following close behind. When they got back to the clearing, everyone they walked by went silent at the sight of the young cat's lifeless body. They stopped when they got to where the others had been buried. A crowd had formed around them as they started to dig a grave for Grassy. After a bit, they had a deep enough and wide enough hole, and they slowly lowered the body of the kitten into it. When it was laying at the bottom, Blocky and Basketball threw in two flowers. One was orange and one was Lavander. Then, they slowly filled the hole back up, everyone watching. After the hole was filled, Basketball sulked away. Blocky noticed and followed her. He wasn't going to leave her alone. Not right now.
Leafy was the last one to leave the grave. She'd considered Grassy her little bro. She loved to hang out with him, tell him stories, play with him... but now he was gone. She wasn't there to protect him. The one time he needed her, she wasn't there. She was off doing something else. And now... now he was dead. She would find who did this. She would find them and kill them herself, and she would find great satisfaction in the feeling of their flesh tearing beneath her claws.
Coiny sat at the river bank, crying. Why did he do it? Why did he kill Grassy? He could have just protected Leafy, Firey, and Pin. No one could ever find out. If they did, they would never listen to why he did it. They'd probably kill him. He dug his claws into the ground. He could only do one thing. Pretend it wasn't him. He'd have to live with himself. With what he'd done.
"I'm... a monster..." He croaked. He should have just let Five kill him. At least then, Grassy would be alive. Not buried six feet under. Alone and cold. He took a deep breath before turning around and heading back to the clearing. He would never tell anyone what he did. Never. He was a monster, a murderer, but no one ever had to know. Even if it meant he had to kill anyone to shut them up.
