Chapter 13
Heart Stopping
Father? I thought nervously as I turned and saw the king of Floric, Blane Flairon standing there with his arm stretched out to me.
He was a sturdily built man with similar features like Reid's. His eyes were black with flecks of red throughout them and Blane's night black hair was streaked with a few gray strands in the front. The king wore boots, black pants, a white shirt, and an elaborately embroidered vest that the colors looked like the flames when it moved. He looked nothing like I had pictured in my mind.
Reid bowed to his father and transferred my hand into the king's. Blane put his warm hand above my waist and led me into some simple steps. It was like his mind was on something else as I caught him looking around the ballroom and he never would meet my gaze directly.
"So you are the one my son is so intrigued with?" he asked trying to start a conversation.
My heart felt like it was in my throat as I realized the entire ballroom was watching us. So much for laying low, I thought.
"I guess so your majesty," I answered right before he twirled me around.
He smiled but it seemed like it was almost forced, "My question is how did you manage to find yourself here? I think the last time I saw a water wielder with eyes like yours was when the treaty was being signed."
"Sampson Seaream?"
"Yes that was his name."
"He was my grandfather, my name is Alonia Seaream," I said and the king dropped my hand in surprise.
Now even more people watched on when the king and I had stopped dancing. He asked with a tone I could only hear, "If Sampson was your grandfather then you-," he stopped himself and I nodded confirming his suspicion.
The king was very good at masking his thoughts but I saw a faint hint of concern on his face as he looked over at Reid who was dancing with a black curly haired woman with red eyes like his, Queen Esmerelda.
He bowed to me and made his was over to his family. Then Esmerelda and Blane moved over to a sitting area, followed by Reid. Something was going on, but I had no idea what.
I started to slowly retreat off of the dance floor but I accidentally brushed shoulders with someone. I turned to apologize only to find Burke dressed in black pants, an orange top, and he smiled down at me.
"You know you might want to try saying 'hi' the next time you see me. Bumping into one another may get annoying," he said.
"Sorry Burke, I-,"
"Sorry won't cut it," he said with a bow and he offered me his hand to dance.
I rolled my eyes but took his hand as he led me out onto the dance floor.
...
Reid's POV
Instead of giving into my nerves of handing Alonia over to my father, I went over to my beautiful mother, Esmerelda and pulled her onto the dance floor.
She wore a form-fitting gown that looked like flames that ate at her skin when she moved. Her long curly charcoal black hair was the same color as min and her red eyes were the same too.
My mother laughed when I bowed to her and began twirling her around the floor.
"Reid what has gotten into you?"
"What do you mean?"
"It's that girl isn't it?" she asked with a slight frown.
I looked through the throng of dancers to try and find sight of her. Instead I found my father quickly making his way over to us, but without Alonia.
