"Your phone's ringing."

Gulf noticed the sound when a co-worker pointed it out to him. Several of them had gone out to a bar after work.

"Oh, thanks. I'm totally out of it."

Actually, it wasn't a call. Gulf had received a message. He glanced casually at the name, and a shudder ran through his body. Noticing Gulf's prolonged silence, his co-worker called out to him. "Got some urgent business, eh?"

"No, I think it's fine."

He put his phone back in his pocket and returned to the conversation. But five minutes later his phone chimed again, announcing the arrival of another message.

"Sorry. Just a second."

Gulf checked the screen hurriedly. He tried once again to pretend that he hadn't seen it, but his heart began beating faster after reading the message.

"What's up, Gulf?"

"Sorry. I need to cut out early."

"What? But we've barely started!" a junior employee complained from the seat across from Gulf.

"I'll make up for it next time. I'm really sorry."

Feeling guilty, Gulf left a bit of money, picked up his jacket and shoes, and left the bar. He searched out a taxi on the street and hurriedly climbed into one.

"Where to, sir?"

He gave the driver the name of a hotel in Shinjuku. "Please get me there as soon as possible."

Gulf drew a deep breath. The messages were from Mew. The first one read, "I'm in Shinjuku. Come now."

He'd ignored it since it had been so arrogantly dismissive of what he was doing. But Gulf had no choice but to acknowledge the message that came next, "Remember what I can do to you."

It was better, he supposed, that it had come by text message, at least, instead of over the phone.

The taxi finally pulled up in front of the hotel. Gulf paid quickly and got into the elevator to go to the front desk.

"What room is Mister Mew staying in?"

"Just a moment. Would you please give me your name?"

"Gulf."

The well-trained staff contacted Mew's room immediately. It was the same room as last time, on the forty-fifth floor. Turning down the offer of an escort, Gulf headed up to the room alone.

Inside the climbing elevator, Gulf asked himself how he had gotten himself into a position like this. If he ignored the call, something was going to happen---some part of him realized that. But the memory of the pictures grazed his heart. The things Mew had said resurfaced in his mind.

'You betrayed me once.'

Mew hadn't forgotten the past. But neither had Gulf. He hadn't betrayed Mew because he wanted to. That excuse wouldn't be good enough for Mew, but Gulf couldn't tell him why he had done it. Mew probably wasn't looking for any explanations anymore anyway.

Gulf's feelings for Mew eight years ago reawakened alongside his guilt in the depths of his heart. The two fused into a new emotion that ruled his heart.

His spine tingled at the reawakening memories of their vicious sex. There had been no emotions during it. He knew he did it only to feed off the pleasure, but he couldn't stop chasing Mew.

Hiding this complicated self-pity away in his heart, Gulf got off the elevator and walked toward Mew's room.

He rang the bell and the door opened immediately. "You're late "
