"I'm glad you're finally back at school, I was worried about you." Lani said with a smile, as she walked down the school hallway with Drista.

"Yeah, I'm glad to be back. I finally feel like myself again. Did I miss anything crazy?"

"Mn...not really, just a test. I'm sure the teacher will let you take it now. Since you had a reason for being out."

"Is mental wellbeing a good reason for being out of school though?"

"It should be, I think so anyway."

Drista shrugged, hoping she could catch up on all her work she missed.

"Oh! And there's a new student."

"Sweet! Wait...is it a boy?" Drista groaned, wanting anything but another male asshole around.

"No, actually I met them yesterday."

"Sweet, so we got a girl then?"

"Their non-binary, I had to research it last night. Their pronouns are they/them."

"Ah, I see...so what I'm hearing is they aren't a boy, that's all that matters."

Lani laughed and shook her head. "Yeah, I guess. Their name is Sky, I can introduce you two later. If we come across them at lunch."

"Cool, I'm down for another friend. Is Sky an asshole?"

"No, they are pretty chill from what I could tell. They gave me candy too, Soo I've already claimed Sky as a friend."

"Should of known, you see everyone as a friend."

"Yes, everyone can be a friend!"

"Even Anna?"

"Uh- no." Lani frowned.

"Pfft, that's what I thought. Let's get to class before we're late."

Lunch came and Drista and Lani entered the cafeteria together. They found a somewhat peaceful spot and sat down.

"Bleh, I hate English." Lani complained.

"Why, I think it's fine." Drista laid down her backpack.

"I'm not great at reading, and reading those novels is annoying. Especially when the teacher makes us read out loud...I hate it."

"Oh yeah, I hate being called on too. Everyone stares at you like you're a zoo animal." Drista agreed.

Lani nodded, and looked around the room. "Oh hey look, there's Sky over there."

Drista looked over, noticing they were alone. "Want to invite them over?"

"Yeah!" Lani got up and cheerfully went over to the new student. After a couple minutes of convincing, she came back with them.

Drista made room for them at the table. "Hey, I'm Drista. You're Sky, right?"

Sky nodded and took a seat. "Yeah, nice to meet you."

Lani smiled and got out her sandwich she had packed. "After we eat we should go outside and walk around the school." (Idk about where you live but at my school, we had 30 minutes or free time after we ate our lunch.  Me and my best friend would literally just go outside and walk around the school property.)

"Sounds good to me" Drista agreed.

Sky nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I'm fine with that."

Ethan came up from behind them and tapped Drista on the shoulder. She obviously jumped in response to the sudden touch.
