I studied the betrothal braid in my hair. A small bundle of black locks twirled around my own white ones. The silver cuff keeping the braid in place was carved with a snake curling around it, tiny emeralds inlaid in its scales. It had been a few weeks since Loki had proposed, and I had already carved his.
The making of a betrothal cuff was a tedious process, meant to truly show your willingness to create something for your partner. They were handmade without magic, so each one would be unique and special. Loki's cuff was also silver, tiny moonstones carved in the shape of blossoming flowers, connecting by the carved pattern of vines with thorns.
My attention shifted from studying my reflection to the knock on my door. "Yes?" I called out. Loki opened the door slowly, eliciting a high-pitched creaking sound. "Are you clothed, my love?" I rolled my eyes, stepping out of my bathroom. "You've seen me naked, Loki. Multiple times, I may add." I set a cluster of papers under my crescent lily, using the potted plant as a paperweight. "Yes, however that was with your consent. What kind of barbarian would I be if I just barged in your room with no permission?" Loki snaked his arms around my waist and set his head on my shoulder, pulling me closer." "We could just share a room. We're going to be married soon and you sleep in my room most nights anyway." I pointed out, leaning against him.
"Well, yes. Although we're going to have to visit Asgard for our betrothal to be legitimate. Odin must approve since I'm still a prince of Asgard. I've already sent a letter informing Mother we'll be visiting, but it'll be a surprise for her." Loki informed me. "I've already told my friends and family back in Stardust." I sighed, looking up at the ceiling. Multiple rubber glow-in-the-dark stars were stuck there. Peter had given them to me as a gift a week ago. "So I guess I have to start packing for Asgard." I said, untangling myself from Loki's arms.
Loki, Thor, and I stood on the concrete runway of the tower. Tourmaline was safely curled up in my rucksack. Loki had warned me that Asgard did not take kindly to dragons. Of course, I already knew that considering Thor's distrust of Tourmaline when I first moved into Avengers Tower. The rest of the team had already said their goodbyes, opting to stay out of the way lest they accidentally get sucked into the Bifrost with us. Thor raised his hammer, calling on Heimdall to pick us up.
A moment later, a jet of rainbow struck from the sky. I immediately lifted off the ground, grabbing Loki's waist for support. A surge of magic flowed through my veins as we quickly traveled through space. My legs wobbled as we landed in a golden room. A wave of nausea crawled up my throat as I held tighter onto Loki. My betrothed rubbed soothing circles onto my back until the effect of the Bifrost wore off.
As I stood up straight, I made eye contact with Heimdall. I had never met him in person before. I had just been told stories by both Thor and Snowdrop. Thor was the more accurate source considering Snowdrop's sources was Norse Mythology, which we had come to find out was not reliable. After all, myths stated Loki had given birth to an eight-legged horse, but that couldn't be more false. "Princess Thistle." Heimdall bowed deeply, before rising up and continuing to chat with Thor. "It is nice to meet you, Heimdall. Thor has told me much about you." I said cordially, putting on my best princess voice. Years of my aunt teaching me proper royal etiquette did not to waste.
"I shall let the Allfather know of your arrival, there are horses on the bridge for you to ride into the city." In a swift motion, Heimdall pulled his sword out of the mechanism and summoned a message raven. Thor thanked him before we stepped out onto the rainbow bridge.
Three horses were waiting for us outside the Bifrost chamber. I chose the one that had a flurry of both black and white fur covering its body. "You know how to ride a horse, right?" Thor chose his own horse, which was blond with golden accents under sunlight. "Yes, it's not that different from riding a peryton. I was taught from a very young age how to ride perytons, before I got banished and discovered Tourmaline's egg." I stated matter-of-factly. Once Loki had mounted his own horse, we took off towards the palace.
