Tourmaline landed on a small island offshore of the city. It was our current campsite. "If only we had somewhere permanent to live." I sighed. That would mean living in the human world, where danger lurks in every corner. Tourmaline grumbled. I looked at my tent nestled between the two trees. Maybe if things were better in my village... I swatted away the thought. I was never going back to that place. I'm going to catch some fish, Tourmaline announced and dove into the water. I sat down and began sharpening my blades. I wasn't sure whether they were long knives or short swords. I didn't care since they were wonderful weapons.
An hour later Tourmaline burst from the water. She leaped onto the island with the grace that would usually be lost on an animal her size. She dropped a few fish in front of me and then sat down. "Fire?" I asked. Tourmaline breathed a little fire onto our campfire. I cleaned the fish and put them on a spit.
After Tourmaline was done with her fish she curled into a ball and fell asleep. While my fish were still cooking, I checked the magical wards around our camp. The spells I used made the camp soundproof and invisible to people unless I gave them permission to hear and see it. When I was done checking the spells my fish were done cooking. I took them off the spit and ate them. I finished eating the fish. A soft yawn escaped my mouth so I went inside my tent and fell asleep.
I woke up to Tourmaline gently poking me with one of her claws. I groaned and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. "What?" I grumbled. I saw a pack of shadow wolves. Tourmaline answered. I sighed and grabbed my weapons. I hopped on Tourmaline and she took off.
When we left camp I cast an invisibility spell to keep Tourmaline and myself out of sight. I then cast a tracking spell. The footprints of the wolves burst into existence. Tourmaline followed the trail. The trail led to the pack of wolves running through the streets of New York City. The team of superheroes was already fighting them. I assume I have to stay behind? Tourmaline asked. This time I used my mind to respond. Yes, it would be too dangerous to let the humans know you exist.
Tourmaline landed in the closest alley. I slid off of her back and made myself visible again. I sprinted over to the battle. Blond Hammer Man was striking the wolves with bolts of lightning. I dove into the fray, shooting arrows at the wolves. I yelped as a wolf caught me off guard. It raked its claws against my stomach. This caught Fire Hair's attention. "Are you okay?" She asked, worry lacing her voice. "Yes..." I said weakly as I grabbed an arrow from my quiver and stabbed the wolf that attacked me. Blond Hammer Man killed the last wolf. The team's attention turned to me. I clutched my stomach. Blood oozed out, hot and sticky. "No..." I said even weaker.
"We need to get you to the tower, we will treat your injury there." Patriotic Human promised. I fell onto my knees, feeling dizzy from the blood loss. "Is it okay if I carry you, Lady Thistle?" Blond Hammer Man asked politely. Worry was apparent in the whole team's expressions. My breathing grew quicker. I nodded and Blond Hammer Man picked me up. He raised his hammer and we started flying. My vision faded into blackness.
