"Looks like you guys can use some help."
~Deanna's POV~
Redwing accompanies Barnes on his way to get to us. Sam grins and talks to him through the earpiece, but my attention is somewhere else. One hand inside the secured pocket of my leather jacket, I can feel the cold metal on my fingers. The abandoned warehouses seem robust, only a few little stones falling here and there. Hiding behind a pillar, I watch the people at the entrance of the warehouse we're in. They're loading wooden boxes into red trucks.
Sam's voice pulls me out of my thoughts and I close the pocket again. "You're doing the staring thing again. They're in there."
"Where's the guy?" Barnes leans a bit to the side to be able to look behind me. Wow, he made it without dying. New record for a man as old as him.
"I don't know. I think they're smuggling weapons, though," Sam answers.
"Well, I think you could be right." And the cock fight starts again. If they dislike each other so much, why do they work together? "But there's only one way to find out. I see a clear path. I say we take it."
On the other hand, I'm working with Barnes too. At least I'm working with him to do a friend a favour and not... Whyever, Sam is doing it.
Shaking his head and with a slight grin, Wilson answers him. "We're not assassins."
"I'll see you inside or not." God, that man has no sense of humour.
Bucky starts sneaking off, going through a big hallway and leaving us behind. Well, in contrast to him, I have trust in Redwing, we'll be there in no time. Hopefully.
"Hey, come on, man. I'm just messing with you. Come back." The Falcon sighs and watches the situation over Redwing. He chuckles to himself. "Look at you. All stealthy. A little time in Wakanda and you come out White Panther."
I turn my head to look at Sam over my shoulder. "It's actually White Wolf."
"It's actually White Wolf." Bucky's voice comes through the earpieces and combines with mine.
I clear my throat and return my attention to the situation one ground lower. Brows furrowed, and his head slightly tilted, Sam gestures for me to follow him. We take a faster path Redwing noted on the map and come right behind him when he stops in front of a shelf, standing next to Bucky when he continues.
"All right, I'm inside. Therefore, way ahead of you. It's not great, but very doable."
"Huh?" Sam's lips show the beginning of another grin.
One eyebrow raised, Barnes looks forth and back between us. "Hello. How are you?"
My stomach twists, making me sick with nausea, but I try my best to ignore it. I have to shove the thoughts and memories aside and try to concentrate on the mission. The faster this is over, the faster I can keep watching over Pepper and Morgan.
"Good. What did we miss? Nothing," Wilson, focuses on the people at the entrance of the hall.
Barnes already wants to go, but I firmly grab his arm. "Wait," I whisper.
"I got a vibranium arm. I can take them." He loosens my grip on him, getting out of it.
Men, I think, shaking my head. "And I bleed one week every month under pain. Sam can fly. Vete al demonio."
(Go to hell.)"She's right. Who gives a shit?"
The former Hydra assassin scoffs. "There's two people."
"You only see two?" I whisper back, raising a brow. I counted four when I was observing the situation from above.
"That's what I saw," he says, a rumble in his voice.
I'm upsetting him? Good. "Let's see what Redwing sees. Birdie?"
"Oh, look at that. How many people you see now?" Sam grins as he starts to count. "One, two... Oh, here it comes again." Bucky sighs annoyed. "Four. Five."
"Yeah, five. Yeah. So they're strong. Whatever. All right, let's go," he starts leaving our current hiding spot.
Instinctively, my arm grabs a hold of his jacket and pulls him back, accidentally shoving something on the shelf in the process. Something clatters, making us all duck behind the hiding spot, and the people we're watching quickly pack up.
"Lo siento," I mumble.
(Sorry.)We look back up when we hear an engine starting, Bucky being the first to react.
But Sam brings another factor into the equation. "There's an eighth person. I think they have a hostage."
Now the Winter Soldier doesn't hesitate; he runs after the trucks. Wilson grabs me and flies with me after Bucky. I feel like a millstone around the neck; useless and in the way. We can see Barnes jumping at the back of one truck, he opens the backdoor and climbs in.
"They're stealing medicine. Vaccines," he explains, then his line cuts off.
Sam and I look at each other, both of us worried. "Bucky, talk to me. What's goin' on?"
"Found the hostage. You okay?"
Thank god, he's talking to us. Or Satan. Whoever wants to take the blame for it. Suddenly, we hear a loud "thud" and Barnes' grunts coming through our earpieces. Definitely fighting noises. Then Redwing crashes, Sam loses his sight on the situation and flies closer. I chuckle at the sight of the cold-blooded ex-assassin being held by two normal-looking guys and beaten up by a woman. Guess I'm changing sides, she's my new hero. I always wanted to do that.
Without a warning, Sam lets me fall down. Quickly, I force my feet forward, kicking the woman away from Bucky. What a shame. I start fighting the two men holding him, introducing their faces to my fists.
"Good of you to join the fight!" Bucky snaps and starts fighting the other guy.
I scoff and dodge an attack from behind, something an old friend showed me years ago. Turning around, I bring my elbow up, giving the guy behind me a bleeding nose. Another one pulls my arms behind my back, I jump and launch my body forward; just when I'm about to kick against the other one's chest, the shield flies over my head, knocking the guy behind me over. I fall to the ground with him and feel a sharp pain in my side, pressing my lips together. Then I get back up, supporting Sam in his fight, not giving the man who just interrupted my attack, a single gaze.
"Sam. John Walker, Captain America," I can hear him over the fight.
"Lemar Hoskins." Now I do turn around. "Deanna?"
I wink at him and return my attention to the fight.
"Looks like you guys can use some help." I was right. A pain in the ass.
Before I can even process what's happening, Barnes slides down the side of the truck. All of a sudden, Lemar pulls me with him as he falls off, the shield underneath him and his body protecting mine. We slide over the street and come to a stop, I jump to my feet. Barely, I can watch Sam flying under the trucks, rolling on the grass with Barnes. Good, they're alright. Then I can kick Barnes' ass when we meet again.
