Anson's POV

Shall I stop by again after work? Nah, I've done enough for him, he can and should survive without me. "Are you done?" I turn around. "Almost, I just need to finish this. But you don't have to wait for me, I can lock up." I see I said something wrong. "Are you okay?" "Well, yes, but..." "But what? Did I do something?"

I look at her while she's trying to find the right words to speak up. "No, no. You did nothing wrong. It's just that... Well I don't really want to go home yet, you know. My brother came back home from the USA early. He got kicked out of college which my parents don't exactly like. So I don't really feel like listening to them argue."

"Well in that case, I know we had lunch together, but if you wait for just about 10 minutes or so, we can go have dinner together as well." "I would like that. If it's not a burden for you..." "No, not at all. Just let me finish this and we can leave." She smiles, nodds and sits at her table to wait for me.

Pam's POV

I'm truly lucky to have a friend like him. He always helps me and does whatever he can so I feel better. Always. He's really such a nice guy. What would I do without him?

"I'm done now. We can go." "Okay. Where to?" "Hmm, I don't care, wherever you wanna go. You like sushi right? We can go eat that." He smiles broadly and nodds.

Charles's POV

I sit by the table that's the furthest from the door, because it's hot outside and I figured this spot would be the coolest, since it's right under the air conditioning and there are no windows in immediate proximity.

I order and as I wait for my turn I look around to see if there's anyone I know, who also decided to eat sushi today. To my surprise I notice Anson walking through the door with some girl. As they get away from the windows and she takes her sunglasses off, I see it's his coworker. I didn't know they're dating? They didn't act like they do. Or have they and I just haven't noticed? I look away, hoping they wouldn't see me and patiently wait for my tuna.

Anson's POV

"Oh, look, it's the new janitor! We should go say hi." Before I could protest she drags me to his table and after greeting him, he agrees we can sit with him. Pam smiles widely and I give her a slight smile as well, to let her know, I'm okay with us being there. Even though I'm definitely not.

They make small talk and I just quietly sit there, saying nothing. She notices it and whispers to me: "You could've told me you don't like him," "It's okay," I say, "I'm just a bit tired and don't feel like talling a lot," I add louder so he can hear it too. "Oh, okay..."

Well at least we eat in silence. Not torturingly awkward one, but rather peaceful. And the entire time I keep looking at her. She really is beautiful and the way she smiles at me from time to time, makes my heart skip a beat. I definitely need to talk to her. Just not today, I'm too much of a tired mess to trust myself with not saying anything too stupid.

Charles's POV

I excuse myself when I'm done eating, pay and leave. I don't want to bother their date and the way they look at each other makes my skin crawl. I don't get what she sees in him. He's arrogant, quite ugly, weirdly skinny and overall not an interesting person. He doesn't even have a car.

I'm already holding the door handle when I remember I should pay him back for the two meals he got me, so I walk back to the table.

"Oh, I thought you left," Pam says and I just smile at her before talking to him. "I forgot to ask how much I owe you." "Owe me? What for?" "Yesterday's lunch and today's breakfast?" "Oh, that. Forget about it, it's nothing." "You sure? I don't want you bringing it up anytime in the future as some unpaid debt then?" "Don't worry, I don't act like that." "Okay then, if you say so. Thank you. Bye again." Now I actually leave.

Anson's POV

I have to explain to Pam what that was about, which also explains why I was late today. She kind of seems happy about it? I don't understand why but hey, if she's happy, I am too.

"I think it's time to go..." she says and I agree so we pay and leave. I walk her to her car and she offers to take me home, which I agree to.

She parks on my driveway and walks me to the door. Before she leaves, we hug, and without even realising it, I whisper to her: "I love you."
