Anson's POV
I'm quite sure he didn't seem sick anymore. Not at dinner and not when I was at his house. Nevertheless he didn't show up for work.
Me and Pam on the other hand are both here and somehow things don't seem to be awkward between us. We're helping each other, talking, laughing... I don't know, it all seems like it was before.
"Hey, sorry I'm late. You said yesterday that you need my help with something?" he says looking at Pam and completely ignoring my presence. I mean not that I care or something.
Charles's POV
"Chary hey!" She jumps up to hug me. At first I'm too confused to push her away, but soon I come to my senses and do exactly that. "What are you doing here?" "Come now, is that any way to greet your big sister?" She's smiling but I keep my face serious. "Big sister? And when was this great person when my parents threw me out for something I didn't even do?"
"Chary you know I'm sorry for that. I told them it wasn't your fault but they didn't listen, I mean what more could I have done?" "Hmm, how about telling them you're the one who's to blame?" "Yeah right, so they throw ME out? You're a guy, I knew you would be able to handle being alone. I wouldn't." She almost starts crying which I don't have time for. "Can we do this later? I really have to get going."
And I just left her there in front of my house (which I later remembered I left unlocked) and went to work. Now I'm here, fixing some stuff Pam has somehow managed to ruin.
Anson's POV
He seems absent-minded. He isn't all chatty as usual. Almost looks lost in thought. Wait, he's capable of thinking? Nah.
"Are you okay? You're kind of staring at him. Something wrong?" Shit, I really was staring at him. "No Pam, I'm okay." I shake my head and focus on my work. I really shouldn't be occupying my mind with what he's doing. Or notice when he leaves for that matter.
Charles's POV
I try to stay at work for as long as possible, but at some point I have to go home. I drive as slowly as possible and even stop at a grocery shop. When I finally arrive at my house, I find my sister asleep in the living room, where I slept the previous night. I let her be and make dinner for both of us. When she still doesn't get up, I wake her and invite to eat.
She asks about my day and stuff like that; general small talk. I answer even though I'm not particularly interested in talking to her, at least not untill we clear things up. Which I don't really have the energy for, so after we eat I just take a bath and go to bed. I'm not surprised when she comes to my room.
"You didn't even ask why I'm here." "Even though I'm pretty sure I did, I don't have to. Something's wrong at home and you ran away. You'll stay a day or two, then leave. You know, the usual," I reply, trying not to sound too salty. She looks at me and her eyes tear up. "Something's wrong, isn't there always? You could've at least ask what is it. Don't you think? I mean, what if someone was dying or something?"
"If that was the case, you wouldn't be here. Mom would call and tell me and dad or someone else would come pick me up and force me to go back home. Like the time when grandma died." Now I made her angry. Not sure why, since I was telling the truth, but also, I never really understood her. So.
Anson's POV
It's saturday. Finally. No work, nothing. I call my brother in the morning to ask, what plans they have for the day and we decide he'll come pick me up later and take me home for dinner with my family. I don't even remember when I did that for the last time.
When I arrive all my brothers and sisters are already there and even my parents are home. We all get in the huge dinning room and sit down. While eating we talk about a million different things and it's very loud since we're all talking at the same time. And all of a sudden:
"You did what!?" That would be my mother yelling which causes everyone to shut up. "I dropped out of college..." and that's my little sister, the only one who's still studying. Well, at least she's supposed to be.
"Now why did that happen, may I ask?" That's a semi-sarcastic question coming from my father whom it earns an angry look from mom. "I wasn't doing too well. Plus, it got boring. I'll find a job or something, it sounds easier." Now my mom really looses it, therefore she leaves the room and goes for a walk in the garden, where dad follows her to and the siblings stay alone.
At first noone speaks, then we slowly start asking Gill (the little sister) what's really going on. She explains she started a band with her friends and they're about to go on tour, first across the country, later maybe international and therefore she really doesn't feel like studying. Great, I think neither of our parents are going to be happy about this.
Charles's POV
"Mom's angry at me, cause I didn't accept the job at her friend's firm." "And that's why you're here?" "Well, yes." I send her out of my room and tell her to go sleep. I just really can't deal with her drama right now. Saving that for some other day...
