The woman sat at the bar, head bent down as she stared at the whiskey sat in the palm of her hand as she listened to Grace singing.
The side of her head ached with a sharp pain and she was sure her stomach would have some bruising when she woke up tomorrow.
After the whole situation died down, Arthur had made her stay with him for a few hours before she escaped from his presence and ran down to the Garrison so she could have a drink in peace. However, it seemed she couldn't catch a break.
"Do you sing?"
River raised her head as Grace at next to her, the woman smiling at the men around the pub. River eyed the woman, taking a swig of whiskey before shrugging her shoulders, not bothering to answer her.
"Come on. If you sing, the men would love ya'!" The Irish woman squealed causing River to raise an eyebrow and scoff.
"I don't want nor need a man thank you very much."
She came across as cold and it caused Grace to take a breath at the sudden rudeness of the woman. She remembered the woman's fathers words; 'because my fucking daughter knows which people are bad and which are good. She just likes to play tricks sometimes and then slit their throats when she's gained their trust.'
Had she been caught?
"But, as a matter o' fact, I do sing." River chugged the rest of the whiskey down, glancing to Grace who gave a small smile.
"I didn't mean it like that, by the way," Grace spoke, hoping to rid of the woman's annoyance with her previous statement, "I only meant for you to show them what an independent woman can do on 'er own."
River gave a slight chuckle, turning her back to the bar as she rested on it, her elbows brought up behind her to steady her. Her pale grey eyes scanned amongst the semi-drunk men who seemed bored without the entertainment Grace was giving them.
"You seem to show them that." She countered back before noticing Grace stand from the seat causing the woman to eye her suspiciously.
"Gentlemen," she started causing the woman beside her to go eyes wide as every man looked towards her, "my friend here-" she pointed back to her causing River to scold her internally, "shall be singing the next song."
A round of cheers grew throughout the pub at the new choice of a song, the ones Grace sings being beautiful but becoming old.
"We'll go on then," Grace whispered as she inched back to the woman who glared at her before shifting in her seat to face the room more.
