3 months later -
Today is Rain's first birthday, and I'm having a hard time accepting my little girl is already a year old. We're having a small gathering at home with my family, Storm, River and Elijah - Rain's grandparents, at 4 p.m.
"Sammy, Storm's here!" dad calls up the stairs as I am finish changing Rain into her clean clothes after her bath.
"We'll be right there!" I holler back after leaning back at the waist away from Rain, so I'm not hollering near her ears.
Picking her up, I straighten her lavender colored dress as I walk us downstairs. Entering the living room, I find everyone from my family in there along with Storm.
"'Orm!" Rain squeals as she leans toward him, who eagerly takes her from me with a big grin.
"Hello my sweet Raindrop," Storm coos while kissing her right temple with a smile. "You look beautiful as always."
Rain hums while she snuggles into Storms big body as he focuses his attention on me; "You look beautiful as ways, too. love."
Deeply blushing as I'm sure I will never be used to his compliments toward me; "Thank you, Storm. You look handsome."
"Thanks, baby," he grins at me while gently swaying him and Rain while rubbing her back; " Who else is coming?"
"Rain's grandma River, and grandpa Elijah," I tell him with a smile.
"Awesome! I'm excited to meet them!" Storm grins at me while he still sways them side to side.
Storm and I have been dating for the last month now, but I'm honestly nervous to introduce him to River and Elijah. I'm worried about their reaction to him being my boyfriend, since Lake's only been gone a year now.
"Hey, don't be worried, Sammy. They're going to love that Rain has another person in her life that loves her," grandpa tries to assure me with a bright smile.
Slowly nodding at him while chewing on my lip; "Maybe your right."
"Sammy, they know you are going to eventually start dating again," dad gently says. "They don't expect you to remain single for the rest of your life, okay?"
"Yeah, I know," I murmur with a tiny nod as there is a knock on the front door.
Grandad opens the door to let River and Elijah inside with Elijah carrying a big box that's wrapped in pink wrapping paper with white dots.
"Hi, we're glad you guys could make it," grandad greets them with a smile.
"We wouldn't miss her birthday for anything in the world," River replies with a smile as Elijah places the box onto the coffee table.
After they are greeted by everyone, they silently look at Storm, Rain and I, so I quietly say; "River, and Elijah, this is my boyfriend, Storm Brown. If you shop at the Brown's grocery store, then you've seen him there. Storm, this is River and Elijah Crane, River's grandparents, and Lake's parents."
Swallowing thickly as I finish while I watch their faces for their reactions to this information. Storm wraps his left free arm around my waist to gently bring me to his side.
"Nice to meet you, Storm, " Elijah replies looking directly at my boyfriend with a warm smile.
Elijah extends his right hand towards Storm, who moves his arm from around my waist to move Rain to that arm to firmly shake Elijah's hand as he replies; "Nice to meet you, too, sir, and ma'am."
"Can you promise me that you will take good care of our granddaughter?" River quietly asks Storm with a frown.
Storm looks down at Rain and I with a bright smile before returning his attention to River as he promises her; "Yes ma'am, I plan on taking great care of Rain and Samuel for as long as they will have me."
Tenderly smiling up at him as he turns to face himself and Rain toward me; "Then we are keeping you forever."
Storm dips his head slightly to softly, and briefly kiss my lips while Rain takes ahold of my shirt in her little hand, so I take her from Storm. We get the gathering started by having an early dinner of hot dogs, chips, homemade potato salad, fruit and lemonade - well Rain has milk to drink. When we finish dinner, I help Rain open her gifts, which takes a while since she plays with each new toy for a few minutes. When she is done opening her presents, we sing 'Happy Birthday' to her, and I help her blow out her single, pink and white number 1 candle.
About forty-five minutes after we have the vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and vanilla ice cream, Elijah and River left for their home. Gabe and Leah walked to their friends, and this leaves dad, my grandpa's, Storm, Rain, and myself in the house.
"Hey, how about we take Rain for a walk before her bath, and bed time?" Storm hopefully suggest from the floor in front of Rain and I are, where we are playing.
Nodding eagerly with a grin, I happilly say; "That sounds great!"
We stand from the floor, and I take Rain into my arms with a happy grin as I cheerfully ask; "How about we go for a walk, Rain?"
"Wal'!" she eagerly hollers, clapping her hands together twice with a toothy grin.
Storm and I slip our shoes on after I change Rain into warmer clothes, and I tell the three men who are sittiong on the porch; "We will be back in a little while."
"Have fun," dad tells us with a gentle smile as we walk off the porch with me carrying Rain.
Taking in a deep breath of cool air as we causually walk toward the end of the road with a content smile gracing my lips. I'm enjoying being outside with my beautiful daughter, and lovely boyfriend. I'm very thankful that River and Elijah weren't upset about Storm and me either.
"Hey, can I ask you a serious, Samuel?" he asks after a few minutes of comfortable silence.
"Sure, and you don't need to be nervous, babe," I smile over at him with a reassuring smile.
He inhales deeply before rusing out his question; "What are you're plans after you graduate?"
"I'm going to a local trade school for electrical work. Why?" I curiously reply.
"I, uh, was wondering if you and Rain would move in with me? You don't have to answer me know as I would like you to think on this until you graduate from high school," he replies with a tender smile.
Smiling instantly up at him, I nod while saying; "I will think about this until then for sure, babe."
