Harry was sick. Literally. He was coughing so much it kept making him throw up. He hasn't felt so ill in a long time.
He was laying on the sofa, feeling to ill to move. Anne was worried. How was she going to get him to the testing centre.
There was a knock at her door. She opened it and found her next door neighbour, Jan. Jan works as a teacher in the local primary school.
Jan stood far back from Anne's door as it was opened. "Hi love. Nice to see you." She said.
"Morning Anne. I was wondering if you're OK? Kept hearing you coughing, you sound so sick."
"Oh. That's Harry. We were going to go get him tested for covid, but he's so sick he can't move. Sorry if he kept you awake."
"Oh don't worry about that. But you know I get tested at home? Well I wondered if you wanted these tests. Then you don't need to go out." She showed her the two tests in her hands.
"Oh that's so kind of you. Thank you. I really don't think I'd get him out."
"You're welcome. I'll leave them here." She bent down leaving them on the doorstep as Anne stepped away. "You're such a good neighbour."
"You're welcome. I hope they're both negative. Will you text me to let me know? And if you need anything, just let me know."
Anne smiled, as Jan turned away. "Thanks Jan." She waved. Once she was gone, Anne picked up the tests and went inside.
She felt so relieved to have such good neighbours.
She wiped down the box with an antibacterial wipe, then washed her hands, before going into the living room.
She sat on the edge of the sofa next to Harry. He was awake. He looked up at her. His eyes looked dull and tired.
"Hey love. How you feeling?" Silly question. She knew the answer. Terrible.
He coughed again. "Crap." He whispered.
"Jan from next door has given us some home tests, so we don't have to go out." She said as she stroked his cheek. He still felt too hot. "Shall we do them now?"
Harry nodded. He tried to sit up but was too tired, and slumped back against the cushion.
Anne went and got the tests and sat back down, opened the first test and read the instructions.
"I'll do this for you." She got the little swab on a stick and put it to the back of Harry's throat, he gagged and coughed. When he stopped she put it up his nose, making him sneeze. She put some liquid in a tiny tube and put the swab into it. Then put a bit on the little plastic test and waited for it to tell them if it was positive or not. While they waited Anne did her own test.
A while later...
"Shall we look?" Harry nodded.
She picked the tests up and they both looked.
"S-Sorry Mum." Harry cried.
"It's ok baby. Please don't cry. We'll be ok." She pulled him up so she could hug him.
Both tests were positive. Anne had no symptoms whatsoever, whereas poor Harry had it so bad.
"Mummy will look after you. You'll feel better soon. And we get to spend a while longer together."
"I...I should've gone straight home, then you wouldn't have caught it." He sniffed, wiping his tears away.
"I wouldn't have wanted that. If you had gone home, you would've been all alone, sick and lonely. I'm glad you came here. I love you so much Harry."
Harry cried again. Anne sat down, making Harry move so they could cuddle up together.
They spent most of the day that way, watching Netflix, or Harry sleeping.

Harry felt ill for a few days, before he started feeling better.
Anne had been wonderful, running around for him, cooking, getting his meds for his cough and just keeping him company. He owed her so much.
So while his Mum was having a nice soak in the bath, he took his phone out and made a call.
They had just finished a lovely dinner, chicken casserole, when there was a knock at the door. Harry sat up as Anne answered it.
"Oh my. How beautiful. Thank you." She said and Harry heard the front door close.
She came into the living room with a huge bouquet of her favourite flowers in a pretty vase, and a big box of chocolates.
"Harry love. They're gorgeous. Thank you so much." She said, as she placed the flowers on the coffee table.
"No...thank you. I love you so much and wanted to show you how much I've appreciated you. Not just this week, but for my whole life. I don't know what I'd do without you."
They were both in tears now. "Not matter how big and famous you are, you'll always be my baby, and I love you very much." Anne said, pulling Harry into another hug.

Finally, Harry had recovered. It took a while. Luckily Anne had no symptoms. But it took it's toll on Harry. Even weeks later, he still felt so tired and he was prone to more headaches than usual.
But at least he was alive. He was one of the lucky ones.
I pray that this virus ends soon. That no more lives are lost.
Rest in peace to all those who lost their lives.
