"Did I find anything?" John B laughed as he threw a bag onto the boat.

"You okay?" I asked.

"Yeah I ran outta air." John B breathed, climbing onto the boat.

"You scared the shit outta me."

"Yeah the cops were out here, but uh- we took care of em." Pope said.

"Yeah, you kinda missed the show brother."

"Hey guys." Kie spoke up. "Bogey, two o'clock."

"What?"

"Do you recognize that boat?" Pope asked.

"I've never seen it."

"What are they doing back here? The marsh is closed." I said.

"I don't know, but let's not stick around to find out."

"JJ get the bowline."

"Should we wait on them?" Pope asked.

"No are you crazy? We're definitely not gonna wait on them." I said.

"JJ hurry up."

"Guys, don't wait for me. Don't wait for me, go."

"Let's go!"

"I don't like the look of this."

"Maybe- maybe their fishing for drum too?" Pope asked with little hope in his voice.

"Go, go, go!"

"I'm going! Act natural."

"Hey guys- they're following us." Kie panicked.

"Oh, this can't be good." Pope said.

"Dude you gotta go faster. Gun it." JJ rushed.

"I'm going, I'm going!"

We sped up as they continued to follow us. We heard a gunshot and all ducked.

"What the-"

"Holy shit guys!"

"This cannot be happening right now." I panicked.

"John B get down!"

More gunshots rang through the air. "Oh my God. We're gonna die." Pope said.

I stood up and went to grab the fishing net, more shots rang. "Get down Wren!" John B yelled as I walked to the back of the boat. I threw the net into the water and immediately ducked down again.

The net got caught in their boat but they kept shooting until we were out of sight. I sat back down into my seat and put my head in my hands.

"Uh- Wren. Your arm is like, bleeding." Kie said as the realization had set in.

"Oh shit." I looked down at my arm. "I- it's just a graze it doesn't hurt it will be fine."

"It's adrenaline. Trust me that will hurt like a bitch when you calm down. Does anyone have anything to tie around it?" Pope asked.

"Uh here take my shirt." JJ grabbed his shirt from the seat he was sitting in. "I don't know how to tie this- I'm not a doctor." He panicked slightly.

"Just pull it as tight as you can and tie it in a knot." I told him.

"Uhm, okay" he said hesitantly. He wrapped the shirt around my arm and pulled it.

"Pull it tighter or it's not gonna stop bleeding." I said.

He pulled it tightly around my arm and tied it in a knot. "That's good- right?" He asked.

"Should be good for now. Thank you."

We unloaded the stuff onto the dock and John B went through the bag.

"What do you guys think it is?" Kie asked.

"It's gotta be money or something." John b said as he searched the bag.

"That or a couple of keys with street value to th-"

"Can we please just open the bag?" Pope interrupted JJ.

"Wow Pope, that's a rare outburst of emotion."

"Okay you guys are literally killing me with anticipation. Just open the bag. We almost died over this."

John B opened the container as emptied it in his hand to reveal a compass.

"Oh wow. That's about right. Good job everybody." Pope said with sarcasm laced in his voice. "We found a compass."

Me and John B looked at each other and back to the compass.

"What? What is it? It's not worth anything." JJ said.

"This was our father's."

"How in the hell was my dads compass on that boat." I thought out loud as I unwrapped JJ's shirt from my arm.

"That looks gnarly." JJ cringed from beside me, sitting on the bathroom counter.

I poured some a rubbing alcohol on a washcloth. "It'll be fine, it'll be fine." I repeated, mumbling to myself.

"You need some help?" JJ asked.

"No, no. I just need to get it over with." I sighed. I held up the rag to my arm, gently rubbing the blood off. "Holy shit!" I cringed, the alcohol burning my arm.

"Let me help you, please." JJ said, taking the rag from me and running some water over it. He scrubbed gently over the wound, making sure to not be too rough.

"You're as good as new, almost." He sat the rag down and began to dig through the box of bandaids, pulling out the biggest one. He pulled me between his legs, inches away from his body which sat atop the counter.

"Here you go-" He said as he unwrapped the bandage, wrapping it around the wound gently.

"Thank you." I looked down at my arm, which he still held. "You're a better nurse than I am." I joked.

"I've had some experience." He smiled. Lord that smile.

He looked down, realizing he was still holding my arm. "Sorry." He mumbled, hopping off the counter.

We stood in the bathroom, an almost awkward silence consuming the room.

"I'm gonna go- I think John B needed some help with some things around the house, so I better get to that." I rambled, making up and excuse as to leave the room.

"Wait." He said, grabbing my arm and turning me around to face him, his other arm around my waist.

"Birdie, I-" He started to speak before we heard a loud knock.

"Wren can you hurry up!" John B yelled. "We only have one bathroom in this house!"
