Chapter 2: Confirmation
Bluestone waved farewell to Horst, the smith, and his wife, Ellaine, and started down he path from their house. Katrina came rushing up the same path, copper hairbillowing wild behind her, then falling when she reached Bluestone. "Katrina? What's wrong?" Bluestone asked in a worried tone. "Help me get Horst!" katrina said through gasps.
The girls ran up to the smith's house and Katrina pounded on the door. It opened and Hort's muscular frame filled it. "Katrina? What ever is the matter?" he asked surprised.
"It's my father! Eragon walked into the shop and they began to argue. When I left, things seemed to be getting worse!" Katrina said quickly. Horst nodded and the three hurried to the Butchery.
Upon arriving, they could hear Sloan shouting at Eragon. Horst stopped at the door of the shop and turned to Bluestone. "Blue," he said, "stay out here and make sur no one comes inside." She saluted and he and Katrina went inside.
She could hear their muffled voices as Horst confronted Sloan and questioned Eragon. then Katrina said something, Sloan raised his voice, and Katrina came rushing out. "Katrina!" Bluestone called after her, but with no effect.
Minutes ticked by with nary a sound from the shop. During this time, Snappers had padded up to Bluestone. She knelt, holding out her arm. He lazily climbed up and onto her shoulders when the door opened and a boy with dark eyes and eyebrows stepped out with Horst. He was shoving wrapped meat into his pack whilst juggling a large, saphire stone. "Oh!" he said, noticing Bluestone. "Hallo Blue!" She smiled at him and said, "Hello Eragon." The man and boy made an agreement on how Eragon could repay Horst, then Eragon looked at both Horst and Bluestone. "Can you give Katrina a message for me?" he asked the burly man. "Of course." Horst said. "Could you tell Katrina that Roran will be waiting for her when the traders arrive?" Horst laughed. "Is that all?" Eragon blushed. "No." he said. "He also wants her to know that she is the most beautiful girl in the world and that he counts the minutes untill he can see her again." Horst winked. "Getting serious, isn't he?" Eragon smiled. "Yes sir!" Then he turned, raised a hand in farewell, and began to walk home.
Bluestone let out a long breath and turned to the smith. "You," she pointed at him, "should give Katrina Roran's message and then go home." The big man smiled, nodded, then left. She scratched Snappers behind one ear and he began to purr. "Well," she said to him, "best tell Brom the news." And with that, she walked home.
It didn't take long to get to Brom's house, but Bluestone walked slowly, enjoying the evening. She knocked on the door upon arrival. "Who is it and what do you want?" Brom's gruff voice said from behind the closed door. Bluestone deepened her voice comically and took on a thick accent. "I am but a weary dwarf who's traveled very far to collect a magical key from you!" There was a laugh and the door swung open to reveal the old man. "I have many things within m possesion, but no magical keys!" he said, stroaking his white beard.
Bluestone shrugged and walked in, closing the door behind her. "Then I have news." she said, taking off her cloak and glamour. "Well then." Brom said and aved a hand at the table. "Do sit and tell!" She did.
Brom leaned back, puffing on his pipe thoughtfully. Bluestone stared at him and said, "Do you think it's a..." "probably." he cut her off. "But we won't know for sur for some time." Bluestone nodded.
