Once inside the Heiwa Maru (the whaling ship) Ocelot told Snake to wait for him. Snake noticed that he was acting strange, distant and like if he was avoiding him. He guessed it was normal. After all, Ocelot was a spy always double-crossing someone; he just hoped that it wasn't him this time.

Since Ocelot took his time, Snake explored the room finding a Sony cassette player and blank cassettes. He figured how to use it and wanted to record Ocelot's briefings. It was an old habit acquired during the MSF's glory days; Big Boss recorded his most important conversations (with or without the consent of the other part), asked other folks to do the same and, sometimes, leave cassettes recording in random places to see what they could catch.

Still waiting for Ocelot, Snake did not know what to do, so when he saw a Colt Single Action Army Revolver (Ocelot's favorite since the Virtuous Mission), tried to prove himself that he was suited and skilled enough to rescue Miller. He attempted unsuccessfully to reload the gun. Ocelot arrived and witnessed such failure and said: "It's alright we got it covered. But for now, you have to get some rest." Ocelot injected him with a special serum.

"Hey! You could have asked."

"Sorry, Boss."

"I'm not into drugs."

"These are not drugs. It is a a powerful steroid. As far as I know, your muscle mass was maintained through CPM therapy and EMS, but you've lost some strength. This will put you in shape as long as you train hard. It is more efficient this way, and since we don't have much time..."

"Alright. Sold."

"The physiotherapy will begin in an hour or so. Rest and prepare yourself."

"..."

"And John."

"Hmm?".

"That was some fancy escaping... you're pretty good."

Seeing this, Snake knew that his friend went back to normal, or as normal as Ocelot could be, despite his initial odd behavior.

Ocelot led Snake to his chamber and while doing the latter, he commented about the hospital. Snake did not want to miss the chance to test his new Walkman. Therefore, he recorded.
