october 19, 1982.

arne woke up at 6:30am to prepare for his first day at his new job. he was nervous that people were gonna give him weird stares all day, which obviously they would. he put on some jeans and a black t-shirt and finished getting ready before leaving the house.
he walked to work which wasn't that far, maybe five or ten minuets. he arrived and met his boss, who looked him up and down before greeting him.
"im supposed to keep an eye on you, but i'm really tied up right now," his boss said, tossing an apron at his chest. "don't scare off the customers and don't mess my cafe up." he said with a slight attitude before walking back to his office.
"douche.." arne whispered under his breath before putting his apron on and his name tag.
arne sighed and waited for people to arrive, it was a small town and a small cafe so they got maybe 10 customers a day, more if they were lucky. majority was old people too considering it was right next to a church and retirement home.

a few hours later, amelias pov

amelia usually likes to have a fresh vanilla late while she reads her books, so she decided to head to her favorite cafe to celebrate her getting a few new books. "mom i'll be home soon, i'm gonna go to the cafe.. want me to bring you home anything?" she asked her mom who was folding laundry.
"bring me back a blueberry muffin, please." she replied, amelia nodding before walking out the door.
she walked down the sidewalk until she arrived at the cafe, a disappointed look appearing on her face when she saw the "closed, be back soon!" sign on the front door, she sighed. "i think there's another cafe around here.. what's it called.. menrose cafe i think." she said to herself, considering it's a small town she already knows where it is. she began walking.

arnes shift was over in an hour, but he was already beginning to get ready to leave cause all he wanted to do was be at home right now. as he turned around he heard the bell that someone walked into the cafe.
"fucking great." he thought to himself before turning around, immediately regretting it after seeing who walked in.
amelia was taken aback, obviously recognizing that face. they locked eyes for a few seconds before breaking the silence.
"welcome to menrose.. what can i get you?" arne asked amelia, still staring at him.
"hello.. ma'am?" he said with a small smile.
"that fucking smile.." amelia thought to herself.
"you already have a job, i see." amelia said, "how have you not been flashmobbed yet?" she said, slightly chuckling as arne joined her.
"well we really only get old people coming in who would rather knit then watch the news about a  supposed killer being released, you know?" arne, making amelia widen her eyes, letting out an uncomfortable laugh.
"i'm sorry, i didn't mean it like that at all.. i just met you and have already fucked it up." arne said sighing.
amelia didn't know what to say or do. "i'll have a vanilla latte, please." she said, pulling out $3.
"coming right up.." arne said, "go ahead and keep it.. it's on me." he said, hoping it'd make him less doubtful to amelia. she didn't know what to do but nod them look for a table. she sat down and placed her bag down but instead of pulling out her book she focused on the boy making her latte.
"why do you think he's attractive, amelia.. you have no idea what he's capable of.." she thought to herself. how could she not find him attractive? that brown hair and dark green eyes.. and that voice.
she quickly looked down at her bag and grabbed her book as he began approaching her with a mug in his hand, he could tell she had mixed feelings about him.
he handed her the latte and walked away, stopping right after, and turning around.
"i'm not who everyone thinks i am." arne said, looking at amelia, who then took her eyes off her book and onto arne. "then what are you?" she replied.
"can i sit here?" arne asked. amelia just nodded, not knowing if she regretted it or not. "it's a long story," arne said. "i have time," amelia said as she took a sip of her latte.
"my younger brother was under possession.. let's just say i had too much sympathy and decided to let a demon in my body.." he said with a chuckle.
"i don't talk about this to anyone, and i wouldn't ever.. but from the first time seeing you at the courthouse and then here, i finally have the chance to get to know you.." he said, "but i can't if you think i'm some evil person."
amelia didn't know if she actually believed him, or she was just convincing herself that he wasn't lying because he was cute.
"i want to get to know you too.." she said quietly, a small smile appearing on her face.
there was of silence for a few minuets, awkward silence.
"arne, i didn't hire a criminal for you to be sitting on your ass.. get back to work!" his boss called out, arne nodding back to him, "i'm sorry sir." he apologized, looking back at amelia. "enjoy your coffee." he said with a smile, walking back to the counter.
amelias heart was racing, she couldn't already be catching feelings.. she still has a bunch of mixed feelings.. but he seems so genuine and he seems like a good person..
she put her book back in her bag and got up to leave the cafe, giving a small wave goodbye before exiting.
arne smirked behind her, hoping she'd end up finding what he put in her bag.
amelia arrived from her walk home and reached in her bag for her keys, but ending up grabbing onto a piece of napkin. she pulled it out, reading what was a number, signed with 'arne' on the bottom. she smiled, putting it back in her bag and walking inside.
"i'm seriously not falling for a criminal.. right?" she thought to herself, a blush appearing on her face.. she walked into her room.
