Well, Shoto thought as he stared at his room. Today's the day. Father's coming home, and there is a too-high chance that he will be informed about the dragons—or at least the servants' suspicions that I am hiding something. Then he will most certainly come barging in here and demand answers. How am I going to deal with this?
One of the problems lay in the fact that the dragons were growing fast. After only two weeks they were the size of his father's hunting hounds. He wouldn't be able to keep them in his room much longer.
Another issue was the development of. . .other powers.
~Flashback~
He picked at his food with a bored sigh as he listened to his siblings make small talk. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy spending time with them, but. . .he didn't really have much in common with them. He could thank his father for that.
"Sho?" Fuyumi's voice broke him out of his thoughts. He snapped his head up to look at her.
"Sorry, what?"
"I asked how your. . .project was going."
"Oh, right. They're fine. Very energetic and curious, though. Being cooped up doesn't suit them much."
"I'm not surprised," Natsuo added. "I might be able to take them hunting with me tomorrow; that'll get them out of the castle for a bit."
"That'd be great, thank you Natsuo."
"Anytime, little bro—" his sentence was cut off by something barreling into the table with enough speed to demolish it. He and his siblings stared at the wreckage, forks still held aloft.
"What the. . ."
A navy-scaled head popped out of the splinters, looking around. Shoto groaned suddenly.
"Tenya. . ."
Tenya looked at him with shame in his eyes as he clambered out of the table remnants and shook himself. Then the young dragon shuffled from foot to foot.
"What are you even doing here?"
Tenya let out a single mournful trill. Then Ochako's head poked into the room.
"Ochako. . ."
The pink dragon flew into the room and landed near Tenya, looking slightly embarrassed. A cloud of vapor came from her jaws, and a moment later, the table shards began to float. Shoto rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
"How am I going to explain this to the staff. . .?"
"Burn it to ash?"
They ended up doing just that, but that still left them without a table. Or crockery. Then Ochako seemed to light up and she dashed out of the room. A few minutes later, she returned with Momo in tow and 'spoke' with her; chittering and making odd little rumbles in her throat. Momo simply nodded and closed her eyes. Moments later, a new table appeared out of nowhere, right where the previous one had been. Shoto just stared.
"How did she. . .?" Natsuo whispered. Fuyumi pointed to the red dragon.
"Um, I don't think she's done."
Sure enough, new plates and bowls and utensils were appearing out of nowhere, although Momo was starting to wobble. Then they saw Tenya start roaming around and dragging all the food he could over to Momo, who started feasting on it. As she ate, more crockery appeared.
"So she creates things if she eats enough," his brother said weakly. "Who knew?"
Shoto didn't even have words to describe this anymore. As soon as Momo finished remaking their tableware (and eating the food that had fallen to the floor), he set his fork down and got up from his chair, heading back to his room with three pleased dragons behind him.
