i saw you in the notch of twilight, sighing stardust, of stars yet to shimmer in the sky ---
you were painting them one by one, glitter by glitter, onto that drawn-out canvas of yours.

how i had always loved the colours of sunset!
so for a moment, i let myself slip into a daydream and just watch, wondering with the curiosity of a child.

but like every other daydream, it faded away - the child aged.
it broke; and when the sun went down, so did i.

the evening was a mayhem of purple storms;
glasses shattered as if they were meant to-
nails dragged across creamy skins-
lips bled like it was a poignant art-
angry seashells shut tight around pearls-

i was scared of the night.
and everyone else - they were scared of me.

but you, you didn't get scared.
you sneaked into the little shack of my mind that i feel embarrassed to call my home.
and you whispered,
"remember? we had caught the sun, just a little bit, in a glass jar!"

i saw the shimmering glint,
i smiled.

we held the piece of the sun in our cupped hands and basked in its golden aura, relishing the soft warmth - like we held a bonfire between our fingers.
when the night passed, we swiftly threw the sun-ling to the sky,
for mother moon to treasure it, and keep the essence of the sun

in nights to come.

we watched the dawn bloom from the terrace on top of the world,
witnessing a brand new birthday of the sky.
we skipped around all day,
with our carousel hearts,
laughing out candies and marshmallows,
making the wind jealous of the way we knew to fly.

by afternoon, we were tired and we started to bicker and fight;
by evening, we were smiling sheepishly and blaming it merrily on the rush of adrenaline flowing through our veins.

at twilight again, you sat to paint the sky, as i sat cross-legged beside you, watching.
with a short glimpse, you noticed that i had lost some colours here and there;
and with a swift flick of your brush,
you painted me into a poet.

oh my my, we are now angels with the sunset painted on our wings.
