We swatted and grabbed at each other as we were held. Then we ran together as we were supervised. After came the crushes, late-night calls and giggles. We could talk about everything under the sun.
Until we couldn't.
Square one was meaningless to me before today. I couldn't have understood what it meant. I can't say her name without hurting. I doubt she says mine at all. Now we side-eye each other if we get too close, so we keep our distance.
