Magnus

Magnus felt more peaceful than he had in a week, now that Sophie was sitting by the fire, a part of the circle once more. She had a blanket twisted around her shoulders and the famous stuffed elephant tucked under her arm.

The mood was jovial, until TJ asked, "What happened?" The simple question caused glares that would melt almost any person, Keefe's being almost apocalyptic.

Sophie smiled, though, and leaning against Keefe slightly, she responded, "Okay, if you really want to know." Magnus nodded, leaning forward slightly, and Sophie cast her eyes up to the skies.

"So, they kept me alone in a dark room for a few days, and then they grabbed me by the arm and yanked me into an arena with a rabid gorgonops in it.

They made me fight pretty often, and eventually I ended up battling against a nymph, who I realized wanted to fight about as much as I did. We started a truce, and it was pretty great, because every match ended in a tie. They were SO frustrated!

One day, they accidentally left the door to my cell ajar, so I ran out, freed the rest of the creatures, and then held back the tidal wave of agents until I could run out the door and teleport back. Unfortunately, I was so tired I ended up falling into that ditch instead of somewhere it would be easier to find me.

So, fast forward about 24 hours, skip past the random couples who wandered back that way, and you guys found me." Sophie closed her eyes again, smiling slightly. Magnus felt almost sick, hearing such a horrific story unfold in a few spoken sentences.

At least Sophie was there, and she was safe now that Magnus, Jaz and Will had fussed over her until she pushed them away, smirking about how between Jaz's potions, Will's cheesy limerick, and his glowy healing routine (Magnus felt kinda stupid shaking hands with Sophie, but it worked), she would probably barf if they forced another cup of herbal tea on her.

Alex

Sophie smiled at them, and Alex found herself beaming back even though it didn't quite fit her personality.

"I see some new faces here, and I missed the introductions earlier. Let's play Two Truths and a Lie, so we can all learn a bit more about each other. Anybody want to volunteer?"

Alex certainly wasn't going to be the first, and after an awkward silence, Sophie clapped her hands and exclaimed, "My turn, then!

So, my three statements are: I have been to the center of the earth, I'm registered for matchmaking, and my existence is technically illegal. Which one is the lie? One finger for the first statement, and so on."

Alex had to think about that one. Well, Sophie was too smart to put her lie last, unless she was trying to psych them out... the thing about the center of the earth could be the lie, except Sophie had sounded sincere when she said everything. Usually, you could tell by how they acted which was untrue, but Sophie had been deadpan the whole time.

What was the most probable? Elves (at least the ones she knew) had the weirdest traditions, so it was pretty likely that they would have some form of matchmaking. The center of the earth... nobody knew for sure what was there, only hypothesis from tests.

It was definitely plausible. The one thing, the obvious outlier was the only possibility. How could someone's existence be illegal? Sure, maybe others scoffed at her brown eyes (all of Sophie's friends had blue ones), but whatever caused that difference probably was just outside of society's norms. So, Alex raised three fingers, opening her eyes to see a mix of ones and threes, plus a quiet two from, if anybody, Jaz.
