Lorenzo POV
She's alive.
Is she?
Impossible.
How?
I sat up, the cold breeze of the night entering my room and causing goosebumps on my skin as my sleep was deprieved from me.
It was a wild guess that she was still alive; there was no way we- I could be certain about it. Not over a card.
Was I going to tell the Don? Maybe, but I didn't want anyone to know until I was sure.
Sighing, I got up from my bed and went to check the time. It was four a.m.
I decided I was going to start my day a little earlier, seeing as I was already awake and didn't seem to be tired anymore.
I stepped into the shower and turned on the hot water, my hands running through and massaging my scalp as the water fell on me.
I washed myself and fixed my hair in the mirror before brushing my teeth and leaving to find an outfit.
I settled for a classic suit with a white shirt but left the coat suit in my closet. Buttoning the shirt up, I stared at myself as I noticed my own imperfections.
My eye bags were getting worse and I was in desperate need of a haircut.
My phone buzzed from my back pocket, so I grabbed it.
I unlocked it and saw that an unknown number had messaged me.
Unknown: Hey, it's Dante. We need to talk.
You: When and where?
Unknown: You'll know.
I shook my head at this number's mystique. I went back on the previous messages and found the location of the small restaurant we met those years ago.
I slipped my gun into my waistband and make sure it was loaded before getting into my car and driving to the restaurant.
There was no customer in sight when I stepped into the location. Now realising, there were no staff either.
I pulled out my gun and kept my arm outstretched in case of an attacker.
A shadow flicked past me and I aimed my gun straight at them.
They stepped in front of me and pulled of the mask they had worn to cover their face.
My gun cocked and they stepped out from the shadows, revealing to me who they were.
"Always so mysterious, are't you Dante?" I sighed, shaking my head.
"You know I have to be Lorenzo. How's everything going on in the Mafia life?"
"The usual," I replied, "Shipments are missing, we find who did it and finish them off- then it starts all over again. How is everything in the underworld?"
He shrugged as if he was telling me that there was no change."How... How have you been?" He asked, almost struggling to ask me such a simple question that held so much meaning.
I didn't know how to answer him. Was I okay? No, probably not. Was I going to be? Hopefully.
"I'll be okay. I will." I said, after we nodded and decided to depart.
I walked out of the restaurant and got into my Audi R8.
A new message popped up on my phone and I grabbed it to see what it was as I pulled onto the freeway.
Ivan: I got that trace you asked for.
You: I'm on my way, just wait for me.Pressing on the accelerator, I went faster in my car. In around five minuntes, I made it back to Romeo's mansion.
Recently, he insisted that I was to start calling him Romeo. I didn't know how to feel about it but I got used to it quickly.
I opened the doors and instantly, Ivan found me and we both walked up to my office in silence until we sat down and he showed me what he had found.
"The envelope had no prints on it, and ask you know, there wasn't a return address either. But, I tapped the cameras on the street to follow the person that delivered it. I have an address and if you want Capo, I can send someone there."
"No, it's not worth using him, they've been bringing post around from all over Rome. Find anything else?"
"No but I forgot to mention, there were no prints on the card either but the lab put it under UV rays and found something. I sent it to your email to spare you the trouble of going down to the labs."
"Gracias, Ivan. Where are Antonio and Javier?" I asked him.
"They've gone to find whoever's been messing with our drug shipments. Another 12 bricks were stolen."
I nodded, then dismissed Ivan from my office.
I decided, since it was just around lunch time, I would go to the training room. I often spent my time there practising my fighting techniques to release any pent up feelings.
I changed into some appropriate clothing and headed down to the gym. I removed my shirt when I was a few steps away from the door when suddenly, a maid came out of nowhere, startling me.
I regained my composure and looked at her confused.
"Can I help you...?"
"Andrea, and no, I'm fine. Are you though?" She asked me, her voice changing into some sort of... seductive sound?
"Yes, I'm fine." I replied, gritting my teeth subtly.
I tried to step past her but she stepped in front of me, my frustration growing.
"Look, Annie-"
"Andrea."
"- whatever, I don't know what you're trying to do but I suggest you stop before this ends badly for you. So, leave. Now."
"Why should I? I clearly need something from you and I think it could benefit the both of us." She answered, batting her fake lashes at me as I tried to hide my distaste for the person in front of me.
"Wrong, I don't need anything from you. I lost the only person in my life that I loved and I'm still not right, so with all due respect- you should leave me alone."
"Come on, that bitch died two years ago. You need to let it go now."
I grabbed her by the arm and twisted it behind her back.
"Listen, I suggest you pack your shit and leave. There's no way I'm letting you stay here after you disrespected my girl like that. Your aren't welcome in this house anymore."
With that, I shoved her harder than expected and she crashed into the wall. Muttering profanties, she walked away and I went into the gym.
